Guest guest
I was hospitalized with pneumonia for 17 days and now I've been better and home for 2 1/2 weeks. so every time i get a bad pneumonia (which thankfully isn't often), i always get a little bit of breakdown at the bridge of my nose from wearing the bipap mask 24/7 for days on end (normally i only wear it at night). In fact, I have a tiny permanent scar there from previous breakdown. drs always try to get me to switch masks, that dont cause pressure there, but for several reasons, i just never tolerate other masks well, and i've tried TONS of other ones. The original old fashion blue gel triangle shaped nasal bipap mask works best for me... not only does the mask i use cause breakdown when i'm on it continuously, but just from yrs of wearing it, it has messed up my jaw alignment and caused me to have a flatter face... even though it's the comfiest to me. i never do anything about the breakdown after i've been really sick... it has always just healed on its own. in the past, maybe i would suffer through and wear a dif mask for one night after i got better, put some neosporin, that's about it... but 2 1/2 weeks out of the hospital, and the breakdown is not any better, if not worse. it's not infected but it doesn't look good at all. i went to the dr yesterday. he said i HAVE to suffer through a dif mask for awhile till it heals because that will help most. he's sending me to a wound dr to take a look at it. Any suggestions/advice?

Guest guest
Thanks for all nasal pillow suggestions. I just never have great luck with anything but the trusty basic blue gel bipap mask. I find other interfaces to be flimsy, hard to get them adjusted/fastened correctly on my nose/face, more likely to leak, poor head gear, not stay in place whenever I get turned at night, not as comfortable, etc. I also feel that it's harder to breathe the pressure in from a tiny hole vs a full nasal mask. I am however using the snapp-x nasal prongs for now until my wound heals, which is the best alternative to the mask in my opinion. Any suggestions for the breakdown on my nose? > > > > I was hospitalized with pneumonia for 17 days and now I've been better and home for 2 1/2 weeks. > > > > so every time i get a bad pneumonia (which thankfully isn't often), i always get a little bit of breakdown at the bridge of my nose from wearing the bipap mask 24/7 for days on end (normally i only wear it at night). Guest guest
I have had success using a small " spot " bandaid on the site of a previous nasal bridge ulcer more so to prevent a recurrence of the ulcer. If there is an ulcer, I would use a small piece of a Duoderm dressing that would promote healing while keeping the pressure off this area. When hospitalized and needing to use the Bipap 24/7, I switched between a nasal mask and nasal pillows (Optilife) every 12 hours to prevent tissue breakdown. I hope this is helpful.
