Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Just a quick update on Drew; I am hoping we're coming out of the woods. Yesterday we had a little bleeding which really scared me. It only bled for a few minutes and not too much, and I spoke with the ENT who assured me that a few trickles of blood is ok, as long as it didn't persist any longer than a few minutes or that we didn't see clots. I had to put him back on a liquid diet for the morning, which really made him mad. I may have not even actually noted the bleeding except I frequently check his mouth. Drew is so hungry and frustrated with the fact that he can't eat what he wants (which is a hamburg and some dry cereal!!) The doctor wants me to keep him on soft foods for awhile longer and to keep him calm- yeah right! He's on day 10 now, and having increased pain I guess due to the scars. I am hoping this gets better soon because I have definitely questioned many times my decision to have surgery! But I keep having to remind myself of the horrible tonsillitis that he gets at least once a month and hopefully this will alleviate those symptoms! Thanks, mom to Drew, age 2 1/
Guest guest
, So sorry to read your post... Just know this soon shall pass... Make sure Drew is REALLY hydrated.... sipping liquids.... and eating Jell-O etc... He probably has some scabs that want to come off but the back of his throat is not ready for them to go yet... Thus the bleeding... Just like a scab on a knee wound... if the scab comes off to early the abrasion will bleed again... The problem with the throat vs the knee... knee is visible... and we can put a compression bandage on it... whereas the throat is inside our mouth and more difficult to control and see! If you get him through the next few days..... usually after 2 weeks..... the kids are fine. They MAY extend you a few more days since there is some bleeding and they may want to make sure the small area that is oozing.... heals since it was aggravated by the scab trying to come off!! Each child is different... and the YOUNGER the child is the MORE difficult the road to recovery when it comes to tonsils... The kids do not understand the why's..... and it is so sad to see them go through this... ph was the same age as Drew... and he too had a rough recovery.... He did not eat for 2 weeks!! Guest guest
Thank you Fran, he is doing better. No more bleeding, and starting to eat some soft foods (bannana's, etc.) I am hoping we are through the worst of it. He's a very verbal child and can really express himself well, so it was hard for him to say thingss like " I don't understand why it hurts " and that he was afraid to go to sleep because he thought somebody was going to hurt him. He's still swallowing kind of hard, but doing better. Luckily, after we left thehospital, I did not have to fight him to drink, I would just hand him a sip every once in awhile, and he almost never argued. > , > So sorry to read your post... > > Just know this soon shall pass... > > Make sure Drew is REALLY hydrated.... sipping liquids.... and eating Jell-O > etc...
