Guest guest
Does any one else notice a difference in mood and behavior with there little ones that have ? My son has started screaming uncontrollably during his cycles. We haven't been truely diagnosed with yet but I am trying to find every thing I can, because it sounds like this is what he might have. The dr.'s are not listening to me either and think I am an overly concerned parent. TIA Bree Tyler (husband) Ethan(2) has been sick every month since 61/2 months Audrey (4 months)
Guest guest
Hi Bree, My son is 2 1/2 and has been diagnosed for over a year, but also had symptoms very young. He is usually a pretty happy go lucky kid, but does get moody during an episode. This was worse when he was on the prednisone, SEVERE mood swings! Welcome to the group, I know it has been a big help for me! mom to Drew, age 2 1/2 > Does any one else notice a difference in mood and behavior with > there little ones that have ? Guest guest
Not sure if this is the same as your little one, but (now 24 months) used to do this on the third or fourth night of her fevers. She would awake about 2 AM, screaming. Unable to quiet her, I would take her downstairs, where she would lie in the floor and scream for about 20-30 minutes. Trying to touch or hold her would just make her scream louder and pull away. The next day, her fever would break. After a few months of this, I realized that (since her fever always broke within a day or so afterwards) perhaps she was hungry. When she got a fever, she would drink well but ate NOTHING throughout the entire 4-5 day episode. Perhaps, I thought, she was just getting well enough at that point to be hungry but couldn't communicate it. We started giving her Carnation Instant Breakfast in milk a couple of times a day during her fevers, and she hasn't had a " hell night " since then (about five months). I know that the Instant Breakfast is loaded with sugar, but I figure it's better than having her be hungry and not sleep well. Not sure if this is the same type of " screaming uncontrollably " that you're seeing, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Guest guest
My daughter drank pediasure during episodes of not eating which seemed to help with a lot of her crabby and irritable behavior. It didn't eliminate it but it helped. Which makes sense because if your blood sugar is low you are often irritable. Guest guest
We did something similar with Danny. I would go through a case of Ensure every month with him. He had it with every meal and we'd call it a milkshake. During fevers, it was sometimes the only thing he'd drink in addition to water and it seemed to keep him going. Plus, he would lose so much weight every month, that right when he'd " catch up " , he'd get another fever and lose it all again, so the calories in the Ensure helped with that a little. Guest guest
Thank you so much I feel better knowing I am not the only one dealing with this (screaming). I will give him some pediasure or instant breakfast the next time this happens. He just got over his episode today. By the time the next episode hits we will be in Seattle at the specialists. I am having panic attack about it. TIA Bree
Guest guest
Hi Bree, My daughter is 6 1/2 and has had fevers since 10 months. When her fevers start her mood changes dramaticaly. She is very sweet by nature, but she gets very whiny and sensitive. I have found through years of dealing with this that the best thing to do is to be calm with them and have them just be really comfortable. I try my best to be understanding but I know that sometimes it gets hard. I have a 4 year old too who sometimes can get on her " nerve " as she calls it, so I try to separate them and just appease her. Be patient (but I'm sure you are anyways), I know its hard, but your son is little and tell you how awful he is feeling. Its hard for a two year old to verbalize just how bad his tummy hurts etc.. Good luck, and know that we all know how you feel.
