Guest guest
What a great message! Try not to panic over the teacher having just one year experience. 's tutor is THE BEST and is only 1/2 way through her Master's in Special Ed..so much so she got a job teaching a class of 8 kids in 7th grade, ( functioning Kindergarten/1st grade level) over a teacher who is already done with her program..Good news for her and the 8 kids, bad news for us because I don't know what I am going to do for a Tutor now...one thing at a time., no panicking ine! She is the best because of attitude, and willingness to work until she figures out a kid. She has the attitude we have discussed about it not being the kid's fault if he doesn't " get it " , but the teacher's fault!! Prior to 's autism diagnosis, the teacher, ( who I thought was wonderful and who had 28 years of experience) just figured was a kid with a bad case of Down Syndrome, in spite of my saying to her and to anyone else who would listen, how he had gone down the tubes in the last 6 months ( coincidentally the same time he began in his new school)..She clearly said he was " just stubborn, like so many kids withDS " ...So, her experience actually got in her way because she was so busy classifying him she couldn't see him as the individual he was. Once he was diagnosed, it was " OH, NOW I can see what is happening!! " from her, and she was absolutely shocked at the progress he made... All this to say, try not to worry until you have something to worry about. THe new teachers are overwhelmed often, but at the same time are young, open-minded, and hard working wiht no other obligations...usually..so....good luck! ine
