Guest guest
Hmmmmm....the things our kids do that most people don't get the pleasure to experience..... I've known for quite some time that Tanner would prefer to be a dog. I say this with much love and affection - it's just the truth! We had a beloved boxer, Kimba, who died two years ago (we also have a lab, Sophie). Tanner was Kimba's constant companion. For those of you who have never seen a boxer - they have gigantic, drooling tongues. Very disgusting. Tanner would put his face directly in front of Kimba and she would lick away. At first, we stopped this behavior at the first opportunity - but Tanner loved it, Kimba loved it, Tanner's complexion was beautiful, so we decided what the heck. If we couldn't find Tanner in the backyard, he was resting in the dog house. Tanner would play ball with the dogs for hours - the poor dogs would be tired, but they'd still chase that ball everytime Tanner threw it! On several occasions, I thought I detected a reddish ring around Tanner's mouth.....dry dog food! Yuck! But I never caught him in the act. I look out the back door today and Tanner has his face IN the food bowl WITH Sophie - dining together. My kid, who won't eat anything messy, won't eat pasta, eggs, sandwiches, Mexican food, candy except M & Ms, etc. etc. has decided that dog food is OK. Last but certainly not least, I spied Tanner following Sophie around the backyard as she pooped - VERY CLOSELY following her around. I hope he's not deciding that this too would be a great thing to do! I really think that if Tanner could articulate his deepest wishes, he'd say " I wish I were a dog!! " Jill

Seth is the happiest kid here and all he wants is an old shoe to dangle and chew on! LOL Right at this second, I wouldn't mind being a dog, all alone in a dog house with no body to bother me! Guest guest
too has spent years imitating the dogs and runs from gate to gate barking along with them. He too laps at their water bowl along with them (Yick), and pretends (thank goodness) that he's squatting like our male Beagle and female lab mix. Yes, our male dog squats too. I keep telling my Dh to go out and teach him how to do it right. To this day at 13 still sits. He refuses to stand up and go. I have tried to get my boys to show him, Dh, etc. I've even tried putting a target in the bowl and make a game out of hitting the target. No luck! Oh well, maybe he's just lazy and you know how hard it is to break those routines of how they learned.
Guest guest
Matt follows our dogs around a lot too. Tries to drink like a dog out of bowls, and his splash pool, eat like a dog, fetch things like our dogs (notice I say like " OUR " dogs. OUR dogs go and get the ball, stick, etc... then carry it off-that is what they have taught Matt to do too) We have a male (neutered) and a female (also fixed! We take NO chances). He has watched them relieve themselves, and has commented on it. One night, I put Matt's pull-up on him as we were getting ready for bed. He has a race-car bed to keep him from rolling out, and he has to climb in. On the way in, he lifted one leg and kept it up there. I asked, what are you doing? He smiled, and said " Elvis, (Our male), potty! " SUre enough he was peeing in his pull up with his leg lifted like Elvis! Guest guest
thats cute, most all kids norm or not eat dog food, lol, must be all be missing what ingredients are in the dogfood, lol, we use to have similar probs with nathan, he would wrestle with the dog, and drink out of her water, that gotr stopped but then we caught him drinking out of the toilet, uuggg, so then a lidlock got put on, and door shut at all times, we no longer have a dog and those actions and memories are either outgrown or forgotten, he will play dog with other kids, barking and panting and licking others, he use to put his mouth to the dog too letting him lick it, and we plan on getting a dog again when we buy a house this fall, we moved backhome last winter and have been looking around and now have very hopeful dibs on a 4 BR house, by grandmas he can walk across the back yard to visit, we are thinking of getting another st benard (they can handle nathan's strength) or else a specially trained dog for him to help keep him safe and out of trouble especially when outside, and its good therapy too. shawna. >From: jill cantonwine <jcantonwine@...> >Reply-egroups >egroups >Subject: Re: My Life As A Dog >Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 22:42:50 -0700 (PDT) > >Hmmmmm....the things our kids do that most people >don't get the pleasure to experience..... > >I've known for quite some time that Tanner would >prefer to be a dog.
