Even though is much younger, this brings back some memories. When he was

in 1st grade, his school had a dance (grades 1-6). They had games to play, and

the dance floor. I had to go with for the same reason, his aide wasn't

going to be there, and if I remember right, those in grades 1-3 had to have

parents with them. This was when was " into his own world. " I remember

hanging back and trying to let him socialize with his peers. I got so

embarrassed for him at one point. He went to the dance floor and was just

spinning in circles, then he dropped to the floor and started to just sort of

lay and flop around. I was about to get up and rescue him when I heard a child

say, " Look! 's doing the crawl! "

Things will be alright I'm sure. It's really hard to hang back, though, I know.

Garth s Fans indeed. even has a framed collage of Garth

pictures above his bed and all his CD's. Yes I remember the video, although

it didn't hit me until now.

The kids on campus always say hello to him and I just hope they're just as

friendly at the dance. Thanks for the support. I'm sure a lot of eyes will

be on to make sure it goes well in that regard too. I hope, and I'm

just real nervous..

I would be so scared if I were you, but you are right that you can't shield

them forever. As long as you are there too, I wouldn't worry. You can

redirect anything that looks like it could lead to something bad. That's

great that you are able to do that. You get some sense of safety, and he

gets a little freedom. I'm sure things will work out well. I have found

that I get way more upset over things than I need to be, because they don't

affect Seth in the horrible way they affect me. Of course he's only four, so

I guess we still have baby problems compared to these big ones! Let us know

how it goes.

i agree with mary s. , ALL the kids should be reminded of what manners are

and respect towards all kids, including billy........ i would go and just

hang out in the background, if it gets to be to much, you can rescue him. but

give him the chance to mingle with his peers, the exposure is greatt.....hang

in there, saying prayers for both...leah

I would call the school, and talk to someone there about telling the

OTHER kids about proper, kind, polite behavior. Warn them that you will

be there, and expect to be treated with respect, and kindness, and

will be heard from if anyone doesnt. That doesnt' mean everyone must

dance with him, but they must not laugh, make fun of, or be mean to him

either.

Okay, you're being silly although you know kids can be pretty cruel

sometimes. It's what you wanted to hear, so there you go.

Actually, you do have valid concerns, but I hope things work out well. I

know how you feel. Sometimes Ian says to us, " Don't laugh at me, " which

makes me think there are times when people are laughing at him when we're

not around.

THE DANCE WAS WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! had a great time and all my

fears went out the window when kids started yelling " HEY BILLY,

ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOUR GOING TO THE DANCE, COOL... immediately

started dancing and some of the girls starting saying, " Hey and danced

with him for a while. A little too prevocative for my taste. This is my

baby boy your grinding up against, geez........ He got the thumbs up from a

few boys and everyone did their own thing. When a slow dance came up

ran over to the side of the dance floor where I couldn't see him and I

immediately panicked. He grabbed his teacher and pulled her out to the

dancefloor. His teacher got embarrassed because everyone started cheering

and danced slow with her. I got some great pictures. WOW, I have a

real teenager!!!!!!!!!!!!!
