Guest guest
Hello! Well I was sure Drew's fever was due a few days after his scheduled surgery, which is next Wed, but today out of the blue he spiked up. Not being able to use the motrin if we wanted the tonsillectomy, I gave him tylenol, which didn't help much. So I called his doc and ent and they said it was ok for him to have the prednisone, so I dosed him with that at 3:30. At 5:30 his temp was still 104.7 (maybe it was higher than that before the prednisone, but he wouldn't let me take it then) so I called the pediatrician because the prednisone has always taken it down within a half hour. She said that the prednisone could take a few hours to work, and maybe it was also that he didn't have any motrin in his system like he had the other times we've used it (we have been able to control his fevers without prednisone since Jan with tyl/motrin). By then it was time for more tylenol and then about an hour after that he asked for a juice box and a yogurt. Then he wanted to go outside to play in his little kiddie pool! I figured the fever must have gone away, so temped him again and he was still 103.3!! BUt he was acting much better. By bedtime he was down to 101 and happy. Amazing how fast this one came on- usually I can tell he's going to get one. He wasn't due but my husbands been away for business for almost 2 weeks now, so maybe stress brought it on quicker. His tonsils are covered with the usual pus and spots- So hopefully we will do the surgery Wed and this will be our last REAALLY bad one- at least for the throat involvement! Well off to bed, who knows how much sleep we'll get tonight! mom to Drew, age 2 CoventryRI
