Randi, I read a bit about it in the articles posted on the

homepage. This might help out. I'm not really sure I could answer your

question properly but maybe someone else could.

Where does come from?

I know this may sound like a silly question to some of you, but my ped

doesn't have a really good answer for me - does anyone know what causes a

child to have ? Is it genetic, or is it like an infection caused by a

virus?

Thanx

has an unknown etiology.

Simply means they have NO idea!

The other fever disorders have genetic mutations which cause the fevers...

but with there has NEVER been two children or two blood relatives

within a family diagnosed.... and NO mutation has been found.

There are theories... such as over-active immune system.... defect in

cytokine function etc... but NO found etiology at this point.

We know something triggers our kids fevers... and there has to be a reason

they are cyclic... but as to date... (the disorder was named in 1987 but

documented periodic fevers seen from the 1800's)..... there is no known

reason.

This is why it is good that NIH is now including children with possible,

probable and diagnosed in their Periodic research!

There is NO infection going on in kids.... and there is NO genetic

link in ...

Check out our file section and the links... and familiarize yourself with

the various fever disorders.... we have had a few children mis-diagnosed

with and later tested for the genetic mutations... later diagnosed

with actual mutations...

God Bless....

and welcome
