Your description of the way you felt - shaking, falling apart when it was over, lost appetite, etc. - was exactly how I felt when I lost track of a few years ago at a doctor's office and she crossed four lanes of traffic at rush hour and was picked up by a stranger who turned out to be a good samaritan who had a niece with DS and ended her " adventure " in a police car! It took me a long time to get over that one! Your reaction is entirely normal considering the circumstances. I will say a prayer of thanksgiving tonight that Maddie was rescued safely from her predicament and that you did not have a heart attack! Virtual chocolate and valium coming your way!!!!!! She must have shimmied her little body to get out. And Yes, I think it is Maddie at Loyola. I haven't been down there in a long time, but they did take her picture and I signed release forms, so it probably is. She's also pictured numerous times in Joan's D/S issue on ASD and DS. I went screaming through the store and shoppers dropped their packages and all went searching. 1/2 hour later a lady found him outside the store by the busy street and brought him to me. I never shopped at Sears again and reported their security to headquarters in Chicago at the lack of help or concern I got from them. Burlington Coat Factory - linene and clothes has a polcy. Any child reported to any clerk as mssing causes NSTANT reaction in the whole store. All doors are locked and no one enters or leaves until the chld is located. The description of the child is announced over the loudspeaker and every clerk keeps lookng until the child is located. Guess how I know???!!! Elie made it from chldren's coats to the other side of the store, under the counter of bed linen in less than 2 minutes! But he was found in five mnutes. So glad to be back!!! It is kept locked, and you have to press a buzzer that goes up to the front office, and then they buzz you in. I was there with my then 7-year-old son, who had to go to the bathroom so badly he was dancing. I pressed, no response. Pressed again, no response. I ended up sitting on the button for a while, and almost told him to pee in the corner of the hall. They finally let him in.
