Guest guest
Yikes. I write a message and save it to draft to track down something then I can't find were the draft is stored. Maybe it went to the list? I'll see when I get the next digest. Where to start? This digest is like Shakespear, comic/ tragedy, laugh and cry. It's great. About Lambs Farm, in Chicago area, was rejected because (at the time we weren't getting the autism angle) the woman in charge felt he would not do well because he couldn't communicate in any standard form (verbal/ sign). Maureen have you heard differently? That place in Teledo I wrote about (farm for people with autism) is called Bittersweet Farms (419-875-6986). They are full and have eternal waiting list but is another spot that might be interesting to visit. Maybe we can have a World-Tour (with Tina ?) or a motor home caravan across the U.S. to check out programs etc.. Bittersweet Farms has been used as a model for other sites. There is one in Indiana but I don't have the info. on that yet. Leah, thanks for the info on the Down Home Ranch website. I'll be surfing that today (day off today). , the " aaaahhhh, can't home school " comment made me laugh. I love the honesty of this group; really liberating. I home schooled for a year when he began having trouble at school. It went better than I thought and he even began sight reading, but I was glad when we moved and he returned to school. He didn't do well again but I was afraid to take the full responsibility for teaching him long term. I agree with Leah, I can't do it all and shouldn't have to. It isn't just home schooling, which I think can be a real plus, it's the multiple issues involved for our kids. I meet parents of people who have ds (no autism) who are really independent etc. and they say the same thing. They have to teach them everything because the schools are failing them, especially in transition years (last four years of schooling). I was interested in the comments about Risperdol and Seroquel. appears to be responding to Risperdal but he still has problems. I have seen this happen on other drugs too = good results then things unravel. I was glad to see Seroquil might be another option. I am happy that he is sleeping better and feeling better.
