Guest guest
I guess I just gave him no choice. When he first tried the new macaroni and cheese, he took one bite and said old one. I told him the old one made him sick. this was his new one. eventually, he decided he'd rather have the new one than none. After we got him weaned off the gluten, he was more willing to try new foods. Loriann
Guest guest
Speaking of weight. weighed 36 pounds for 3 years while he was on Dexedrine. We took him off, gave him Risperdal and he shot up to 50 in, I don't know maybe 6 weeks. Now (much later) he weighs 56 pounds and is about 47.5 inches tall. He's finally in a size 10! and some 8's. He's 10 years old, by the way. Loriann
Guest guest
is 10, but probably on about a 6 year old level. We used to stress over his eating, and give him his favorites just to get something in him, because (as I said in a previous post) he didn't gain any weight for 3 years. After we got his weight up to where it was supposed to be, I figured missing a meal wouldn't hurt him. I put lunch or dinner on his plate and left it up to him to eat. If he didn't eat what I prepared, he went hungry until the next meal. If he did eat all of it (or a big majority), I would allow snacks if he got hungry in between meals. is the type of person who gets up from the dinner table and is asking for a snack before his feet hit the floor. I think he just wants the junk. The problem with us is that it had become a battle of wills. If you force the issue, you only make it worse. I just laid down the law, no eat, no snack, no food until next meal. Yes he drove me crazy for a while asking for whatever his favorite was every 5 minutes (or less), but the key is to not get emotional. Good luck, if you decide to do that. Guest guest
Matt also eats few foods, that includes NO vegies, very few fruits, lots of carbs, and some meat. THe ONE " vegie " that he eats is guacamole! I have started to count " corn " chips as a vegie (made from corn, it grows, must be a veggie). His diet has expanded somewhat with starting him on Risperdal, as I made the rule that he must eat some of what we eat at dinner. Before that, he was so skinny, that I always just gave him cheerios (his favorite) to get him to eat anything. Now he has gained 20 lbs, and I am hoping he stops, soon. I know texture has a lot to do with it, at least for Matt. S ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Guest guest
Colin came to us at 20 mths on a diet of cows milk in a bottle and yoghourt,he drank so much milk he was vomitting,we had to be very firm and it was nt easy,we gave much less milk so that he was hungry and let him make a terrible mess with food,he was willing to put it in his mouth but never swallowed much,I put yoghourt on top of everything so that it looked familar, even on savoury stuff and had food and beakers of juice always about where he could reach it,he was about five before he was eating a proper normal diet and there are still things he wont touch at home that I know he has eaten in other places,so to a limited extent he is still using food to manipulate us,if your child has nt any physical swallowing problems I would be a bit firm not many kids will starve for long and he will have no need to try other things if he is full of baby food Pat

I have a friend whose 13 year old daughter has childhood skitzophrenia and she (daughter) is on Risperdal. This girl is verbal, and mom says since being on this she is totally consumed by thoughts of food. I am finding that if I just say " NO, we are not eating now. We will eat again at snack time " or something like that, he is ok. I think he just needs to ask. I am going to make a big sign for the kitchen saying " KITCHEN IS CLOSED " , to give a visual clue as to when he may get a snack. Guest guest
Matt will be 10 in August, is about 45 inches tall, and weighs 63 lbs. At the beginning of this school year, I got him new clothes. Shirts were size 8- and big. I buy everything kinda big. Pants were size 7- pull on type. Now, for shirts, he needs a 12-14 to get it loose over his belly and not look like a budha! Pants are 10, but they are long. Pull on shorts in size 12 work well, but are a little long.THe knit ones work better, but I like the cotton ones better. ANd I just got new undies for him. So they are not constricting on his legs, and easy to pull up, (he gets frustrated if they roll when pulling them up, and just gives up!) I got him a 14! This is the kid who was wearing 6-8 about 9 months ago! The doc said to have him exercise more--running, swimming, etc....... DH doesn't want a big STONG kid that we cant' control. Since strength is the only one over which we have ANY control, that may be the one to be less stressed! THen the pediatrician, who lives 3 doors from us, suggested that he learn to drive one of those electric little cars. His kids have one! I suggested that HE then be the one to chase after Matt in a motor powered anything! I like having a good relationship with the ped! Speaking of that, I reported that since starting the Risperdal, and Matt eating us out of house and home, Matt's gastric system seems to be overstressed. I told him (doc) that all Matt wants to do " is sit around the house, eat, and fart! " Doc diagnosed him as having the perfect guy life, and proclaimed himself jealous!
