holds himself, but he doesn't do anything more than that at this point.

When he gets excited, he'll slap himself in the crotch (don't ask me), kind of

like slapping one's knees when one laughs.

He hits the front of himself, not really down low. Kind of like playing drums

on your belly, but he does it down lower and right in front. Sometimes a little

under in front, with an upward movement. I guess that's the best way I can

describe it.

Gail, I asked if anyone had a problem with very loose stools with their

child, and if anyone's child has seizures. Reuben used to have a bm about

every third day, and it would be very hard. Ever since the first day of

school this year, he has had a bout of very loose stools (not exactly

diarreah). He has maybe three bouts within a day, and then has regular stools

for about 2 or 3 weeks and then it happens again. Wondered if anyone had

anything similiar in their child. Also, Reuben is on Tegretol for seizures,

and I wondered if that was common in kids. (Bodily functions seem

to be the topic today!!) lol Which reminds me of another question! Puberty!!

Anyone's kids going through that yet? We are having a few problems with that.

Reuben started developing pubic hair when he was about 9 (he's almost 13).

But our problem is that he has discovered his penis and has fallen " in love

with it " , if you get my drift!!!He can't wear pants with elastic because he

can get to it too easily.He also takes a long time to go to sleep at night

because he lays on his stomach and goes to town! Don't know what to do to

make him stop. So far he hasn't done it in public, but I have a feeling its

going to happen sooner or later. ita

lori, i dread it too.......ashton is almost nine and has breast tissue so the

doctor tells me and fuzz down there and under the pits........her legs are

starting to be very hairy.........ikes so scary.....i was nine when i started

my " Monthly " meetings, Lord help me if she starts this young.......doc

says since shes so tall and a good sized girl he thinks sooner than

most........ so i have been letting her see me do the womanly duties in the

bathroom, my dh thinks this is so gross, but i dont know how else to teach

her except to expose her.......i know i sure as hell would freak out if blood

oozed out of me and noone had ever showed me or told me.......... thank gosh

my mother was very open......... i dont want her to be scared or

frightened.......anyone else going through this trial and tribulation......

the hardest part is realizing my baby is growing up......... and i dont think

i am ready........(leah sobbing, with head of grey hair>>>>>>>>>lololol

juanita, i dont have a son whose that old, but i think its normal that he

" go to town " as you put it at least at his age, ...ashton too plays with

herself at times when shes scared ect.....but the dev child psych just told

me to tell her to go to her room and if she does it in public to discipline

her, well this hasnt happened yet in public........but she has been known to

lay in bed and " go to town " also, your not alone

Mood swings go with puberty? Well that explains a little. I thought we needed

to adjust his meds. When Daddy was gone for a few days, would suddenly

burst into tears because he missed daddy.

That is precisely when Elie started " growing " . He had little problem at that

age as to changes in his behavior. The changes to the teacher and the aide

however were wonderous to see - they became afraid of him because he now was a

" man " ! Such idiocy is hard to fathom. He still needed help as a 3 yo would in

toileting and they wanted the school to hire a male aid for " personal care " .

Matt has started somthing like this, too. (Masturbating). The teacher

called it to my attention. Seems when he is bored on the playground, he

will " hug " a pole (Basketball hoops, tetherball poles, etc...) and slide

his body down. Once, he jumped on some girl's back and pressed his hips

into her back. I know at home, he likes to straddle my leg when I am

sitting down and he sits on my lap. I just bring his leg around and make

him sit squarely on my lap, and as for the other things, they have to

watch him. I gave him a basketball to take to school so he has one all to

himself and he can have something to do. When he is naked, like in the

bathtub, he will lightly finger himself, but, I have never seen him " go

to town " , and it is very easy to distract him from that. So I even wonder

if it is truely masturbation that he is doing when he is on the pole. He

will be 10 in AUgust, no signs of puberty, yet. (I'm smiliing from ear to

ear). Actually, my 11 year old daughter hasnt' shown signs yet either.

ALl of my kids are " late bloomers " and I like it just fine that way!

By the way, here is a funny story for all of you with girls:

My friend has a daughter who has Childhood Skitzophrenia (I cant'

spell-sound it out!) In children, in at least this little girl,

developmental delays are very common with this disorder, and

communication disorders are also part of it. She can talk, and talk VERY

quickly, but understanding what someone else is going through is

non-existent. Also, social norms are non-existent.

This friend also has a son who is almost 17 (Daughter is aobut 13 now).

Son is VERY bright, skipped 7th grade, then easily tested into the fast

track at the local private, Catholic High School.(ONe of the top College

Prep High schools in the nation) He will graduate from there with a B

average before he turns 17, and he could have had an " A " if he would

actually bring home books to study. You know the kind of

kid--(READ.....humongous brat, full of himself, thinks he is the best in

the world, really resents his younger sister!)

Ok, back ground set.

(Daughter....duh....) starts her period, on the same day she looses

a baby tooth. Does ok, really with the whole procedure. Next period

comes, and she is still not good with the pads. (Illegible handwriting,

VERY poor fine motor control, just really learned to shower on her own,

with help to set the water temp) (Brother...double duh..)

has a friend over. , on her way to the bathroom, asks " ,

will you come help me change my pad? "

is moritified (this is in front of his friend), mom is ROFLOL, and

I say " Payback is a *%^ & $! "

I get notes home from school, asking whether I've noticed the mood swings.

Duh. Ian's been developing since just before his tenth birthday and he was

11 in February. So I know what you're going through. We're also entering

this stage with our , who is not yet 10 either. Love these early

developers.

Maddie's stools are loose now too......used to be hard when she was on

propulsid. But they are consistent. She also had an endoscopy and biopsy

and celiac was ruled out 4 years ago.

tested negative for celiac, but after I put him on the gluten free diet,

his stool firmed up to a normal consistency. He used to have cycles, where it

would be very loose, then get really hard. Now it's normal consistency (though

as my DH has noted, very large for his size - it's my size or bigger - sorry for

the details). Just because they test negative for celiac, doesn't mean they

don't have an intolerance for the wheat.

Reuben used to have very, very, large and firm stools. (I don't know how he

passed them!) But in the past few months, he will have normal stools for

several days or even a week or two and then he'll have a bout of loose stools

that is like diarreah. We've tried to figure out if it's a food allergy or

something, but haven't come up with anything yet. He's still eating the same

things he's always eaten.Yes, he has seizures. He's had a EEG and an MRI

done.We tried taking him off the Tegretol but he had a seizure so he's back

on it.

My son, Brook had seizures for years. He started when he was under one

year and he finally outgrew them around 6 1/2 years. He has been off of

Depakote now for a little over 3 years I guess.He had myoclonic and petit mal

seizures. What kind are you dealing with and are they controlled with

medication? That was a very difficult time. Sorry I didn't respond earlier

but I am just now catching up on over 500 emails.

Reuben had about 3 mild seizures within a year. This was about 2 years ago.

They did an EEG and a MRI. His doctor said there was definately some abnormal

activity there, but he didn't say what kind of seizures. I should've asked.

(We are in the process of changing doctors.) He put him on Tegretol. We tried

to take him off of it about 6 months ago, and he didn't have a seizure for a

bout 4 or 5 months. But then he had a mild one, so we put him back on it.

It's a pretty low dosage. I' m hoping he will eventually outgrow it.

I am amazed that the Risperdal that is on has eliminated almost all of

the down on the ground stimming. This was an all day thing for quite a few

years. It took a few weeks on the Risperdal but I must say it's only very

occasionall that I see it. Maybe once in a few months.
