Guest guest
There are CHEAP door knob alarms available. Elementary science buff can also make one with " stuff " from Radio Shack. The door alarm is a batterywith a sound chip with a clip stuck in the door. Dislodging the clip completes the circuit and the alarm sounds. AMP made a few sample ones and I got one, but I have seen them advertised in catalogues for travlers to alarm in case someone tries to enter a room. AAA has sold a version of this. A easy low tech fix is to buy jingle bells aat a craft store, sew them to an elastic (get large bells) put the elastic over the door knob or sew a magnet or use velcro so this will attach to a door and jingle if someone opens the door. We use variations of all of these 'cause I am now in a house with 7 exits!!! Sara >>> jill@... - 04/13/0 2:27 AM >>> Hi All, Just a word of warning about hotel door locks. You probably all know about this, but I'm obviously not a seasoned traveler! DEADBOLTS ON HOTEL DOORS DO NOT KEEP WANDERING CHILDREN IN THE HOTEL ROOM!!!! I never thought to check the security of the lock. I thought when I turned the lock for the deadbolt, it would work like our deadbolts at home (the lock would have to be returned to the " open " position in order for the door to open). Nope....the door opens like magic when you turn the handle. I was in the bathroom with 3-year-old son (accompanied by a very loud bathroom fan). Thank goodness he doesn't dawdle when it comes to going to the bathroom. When I opened the bathroom door, I was surprised that Caitlin (15 mos) was not right by the bathroom door waiting for us. Ten-year-old son totally engrossed in some stupid program on TV (he has been forgiven.....I know how quiet Tanner can be). Baby gone. Tanner gone. As I ran screaming out into the hallway, I see my baby is surrounded by maids and a few other hotel guests. Right by the elevators. They have not seen Tanner. The words that come screeching out of my mouth are " HE HAS DOWN SYNDROME!!!! " Tanner must have known I was talking (screaming????) about him, because he popped his head around the corner. aahahhahahahsh. I feel sick to my stomach every time I think about it. We barricaded the door with a chair and heavy suitcase after our horrible mishap. How could I be so stupid?? Guest guest
Good idea Sara, We use those personal alarms when we go camping for the tent in the middle of the night!
