Guest guest
Elie is 14 so in the same age group as your daughter - where did you say you live?? Maybe a match............... We try to form each day with a schedule. Even Sat and Sund have a plan - just different from school days. I must admit that I make up the schedule, show it to Elie each day and he heaves it across the room. But I think he still understands that there is a plan to the day. We go over it in the morning as he is dressing (on w/e) our school day schedule at home is simply the order of morning get ready stuff. We are using social stories more and more of the time. He seems more attuned right now to verbal cues. Sometimes I have to tell the plan for the day or a piece of the day many times before he remembers or is able/willing to tell me what is going to happen. Right now we have been working on the fact that Tues is 7th grade trip to DC to the Zoo as part of their ecologic studies. He is going, but with my DH. Well, all I have heard for a week is No Zoo, stay home. Today we started to sing that silly song " at the zoo we will see " Lions, Tigers, and Bear, ho-Ha! " This is done to a crazy little dance I made up. Tonight he actually tried the song and dance! We'll see what he retains tomorrow. I just finished reading " The Child With Special Needs " by Greenspan was kind of everwhelmed when thinking of spending how many hours a day doing floortime (is this what we are doing when our children are home all day with us in the summer time) but most of the children that he was working with were much younger than , she's 13. He does say that 15 is too early to give up on interative therapy and education. This is the age that our county is so fast to start training(????) kids in special ed.
