Joan,

We do the same thing with Brook. We even have a little bench for the

person assisting him to sit on facing the toilet at home. He always sits and

leans forward onto the person helping him. Then he has a BM or pees into the

toilet.

At school he still pees standing up but with assistance. It is not a

stall but a large bathroom with room for several people. I don't believe it

has been a problem but Brook is not toilet trained so I think he only pees a

little bit into the toilet since he has not been holding it and is still in

diapers.

It sounds like his aide has some kind of attitude problem if she is

letting him make this mess and is not willing to step in and guide him. She

can wear gloves, they all do at Brook's school for diapering. Maybe someone

else can take over helping him with toileting. This could become a real

behavior problem and maybe you could address it from that angle and get a

behavior specialist to recommend the proper procedures to follow so that Andy

doesn't spray the room or get his clothes wet. I hope this helps.

Joan,

How about having him sit backwards on the toilet. This means that they

have to make sure that everything is exceptionally clean, but he could

then lean forwards onto the toilet tank or whatever is there!

I have been thinking about this for Matt too. But he will not have a BM

in the toilet, but he has discovered how to start and stop the flow, and

in the process, sprays urine all over. FUN, FUN, FUN!

joan, what a tramatic thing to be going through for both...... i don't see

what the problem with the lady is.......geez can they write in his iep under

accomadations that there be a " leaner " and a " pusher " ??????? what about

putting like a sponge small ball on top of " it " between his legs so that he

feels like something is there, versus her having her to put her hand

there........ the ball could be bleached and cleaned for sanitary purposes in

case " it " got the ball dirty or pee'd on....... as for something to lean

on....... well only thing i can think of is to put him in the handicapped

toilet and have him lean on the metal rails, thats what ashton does when she

needs to " push " her pooh out......... i dont know if it will work, just

offering suggestions......good luckkkk and hang in there!!!!leah

What about having him sit facing the wall, one hand on the wall, one on the

throttle! If he misses he sprays the wall instead of the teacher.

I thought about this one....sounded good until I started to break the steps

Yes....I fear I'm just beginning to realize all the " not so good " behaviors

he's been allowed to learn this year.

I want the behaviorist for the staff, not the child. Education seems a

little backwards this way to me.........

But it is getting near summer, it does det warm in Portland? Shorts would

be good easy on and off. For a training time anyhow.

Geez, I think they oughta be glad they don't have to change his diaper like

they do Maddie. Anyway, being Mom to 2 boys, I know that the change from

sitting to standing can be a tough adjustment. Maybe you could have Andy sit

with his legs a little more spread on the seat so that he can see better

where it is going....also easier for him to lean forward on someone. I

understand her wanting to respect his privacy, but he's not gonna learn how

to do it with her standing outside the door. HOpe you get more good ideas on

this one dear. And let us know your SUCCESS!!

The ideas of facing the other way were good ones I thought. He could then

lean on the back of the toilet with his elbows himself, with assistant

coaching him to point *it* down.

I thought so too, except they require taking his pants all the way OFF to

get on there...............

I have been reading all these posts partly with laughter and partly with

fear! I am no where near this point with Seth yet, and I guess it is

something I am not in a hurry to reach. LOL I have 4 girls and it was so

easy, never thought of how different it will be with a boy, let alone a boy

like Seth! You people are scaring me! LOL Hope one of you wise Moms or

Dads post an answer to this problem. I liked the one about sitting

backwards. Never thought of having to take your pants off to do it. For all

of us who aren't on this wild ride yet, looks like a bumpy road ahead!
