Guest guest
Hi, everyone! This is the first time I've been online since before 's hip surgery on March 9. has had several complications since the surgery and is still in the hospital. The day after the surgery she seemed to be doing fine - eating, drinking and telling me what videos to put on. But that night things went downhill when she began swelling and her lungs filled up with fluid, so they called in a pulmonologist and a cardiologist. She ended up in an oxygen tent because she wouldn't keep a cannula or mask on her face. She was so afraid of the tent, but her O-2 levels were too low to be without it. Then she got a fever, rashes and blisters and began having pelvic pain, so they called in an infectious diseases doc and a dermatologist. They put her on IV antibiotics, topical antibiotics and 2 topical steriodal ointments and began chest and back percussion, which were torturous for her because of her skin and being so afraid. They cultured her blood, urine and fluid from her blisters and found bacteria in her urine, which the antibiotics are taking care of. She's had to have many blood draws, sometimes 2 and 3 a day, and she's lost her IV twice. Yesterday an anesthesiologist came to reinsert it and her gave her demerol first, God bless him. Today she started fighting her cast - she's trying to sit up (the cast has her in a semi-reclined position) and she points at it, saying " Off, off! " The pediatrician thinks she may have a stress ulcer and put her on IV Zantac a few days ago. The past 8 days have been so traumatic for her that she has stopped eating and drinking and is a bundle of nerves who barely sleeps. I've put in a call to her ped psych to request some kind of med to calm her and help her sleep. She can't come home until she's eating, drinking and taking oral meds. Bob and I have been taking shifts at the hospital so that she is never alone. I just came home for a few hours and thought I would write to my friends on the list to let you all know how things are going. I have to go now, but I would ask you to keep in your prayers. It's going to be a long road back from this one. Thank you for listening and caring, Maureen
