Guest guest Posted April 14, 2000 Report Share Posted April 14, 2000 Janet, Thanks for asking about Seth. Yes, his surgery was once again postponed. We are now on our fourth date! If they change it again, I shall find another hospital I think. This is too stressful to keep making arrangements for the baby-sitter, dog, reservations, time off work and insurance stuff. They now have us scheduled for 7:30 Monday morning. I am beginning to think they hope we cancel. Maybe they don't want to deal with Seth. He was rather " wound " when we were there and everyone commented on how well behaved our girls were, but said Seth seemed to be quite a handful. He has such little interest in things that when he shows he is interested in something I am delighted, even if it is escaping, pushing buttons or playing in the water fountain. I am probably creating a monster here, but for now, I just am happy he is exploring and don't want to push him back into his world. I have been reading all the posts and will definitely have to get some door alarms for home and travel. I keep Seth on a wrist " leash " when we are at the mall or in a busy place because he is so fast. But oh, the looks and comments I get! Please keep up the prayers for Seth. Guest guest Posted April 21, 2000 Report Share Posted April 21, 2000 When had his heart surgery (6 years ago), they just put a big piece of " tape " over his chest. It was taken off before we went home. There were no stitches, and the chest bone is stapled together. You can see the staples when he gets a chest x-ray. He is up and around, walking the hall, watching his videos and swinging his shoe! It's only been 5 days since heart surgery and he may come home tomorrow. He is a little congested and has a little fluid around his diaphragm, so they are just watching that now. Did you know they don't even stitch the skin closed or bandage it? Hope that is normal treatment. We just came home for gymnastics class so I thought I would try to catch up on my mail...SO MANY POSTS!!!!!! LOL Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter. We are home now and I can't say that the last couple of days in the hospital were pleasant. They stuck Seth with a roommate that SCREAMED 24/7 ! Just my luck..I could only take that for very short periods at a time, and I heard one nurse tell him to " shut up " and another get mad and walk out and refuse to take care of him, but Seth was fascinated with him. :-) They told me at 11:00 today(Friday) that Seth could go home on Saturday, so I made a 3 hour drive home to take kids to lessons and to Grandmas for the night. 3 hour drive back in the pouring rain to find out they decided to discharge him right after I had left, so we packed up at 8:00 tonight and drove 3 hours back home again! Good thing today is Good Friday and I controlled my temper for penance or I would probably be in jail right now. To let you know I don't always complain, the Mc House was about the best experience I have ever had! I am very thankful to everyone who helped Seth so much, but boy, I wish they could get a clue to the real world and not jerk us around like that. Can't believe that 7 days after heart surgery he was ready to go back to school. Doctor said a month, but when he checked him he agreed he could go back. He is on an antibiotic for a small infection in the incision. He will be checked again Monday to see how things are. Thanks for asking . I am wondering if his sense of pain is dulled, or if he just gets used to pain quickly. I know that he can eat straight cayenne pepper and not flinch. Can't figure it out. Also, I read somewhere that they like very spicy foods. I know Matt will eat the hot salsa with chips that my 15 year old will not eat. Haven't tried tobasco sauce with him yet.
