Guest guest
Concert for Autism Speaks Bill Cosby and Toni Braxton Headline Concert for Autism Speaks April 9 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center Tom Brokaw Emcees a Night of Comedy and Music to Raise Funds for Autism Awareness and Scientific Research (NEW YORK, NY Jan. 30, 2007) Legendary entertainer Bill Cosby and six-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Toni Braxton will headline a star-filled night of comedy and music at the Concert for Autism Speaks on April 9 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th Street, in New York City. NBC News' Tom Brokaw will serve as the master of ceremonies for the fundraiser for Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism and raising money to fund autism research . ³Autism is a disorder that is robbing families of the chance to fulfill their dreams and experience the everyday joys most of us take for granted,² said Cosby. " For example, many children with autism are very limited in their ability to develop warm relationships with others, including their parents. We all need to do our part so that, with our help, these families will finally get the answers they so desperately seek.² ³When autism became a part of my family's reality, I was determined to join Autism Speaks Toni Braxton in its battle against this devastating disorder that is impacting thousands of families, " said Braxton, who is currently headlining in a long-term engagement at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. The mother of two children, one of whom has autism, went on to say, ³So much progress is being made on all fronts from the laboratory to Capitol Hill -- but all of us must continue to fight until we have found the cause and a cure for autism.² ³We are incredibly grateful to Bill and Toni for lending their remarkable talents to us for what promises to be a memorable evening,² said Suzanne , co-founder of Autism Speaks. ³With the recent passage of the Combating Autism Act, the future is far brighter for every individual and family affected by autism. However, the need to raise funds for awareness, treatment and research is as urgent as ever.² Ticket information for the Concert for Autism Speaks will be made available in the coming weeks at www.autismspeaks.org. ABOUT AUTISM Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 166 children, affecting four times as many boys as girls. The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown. ABOUT AUTISM SPEAKS Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of the growing autism epidemic and to raising money to fund scientists who are searching for a cure. It was founded in February 2005 by Suzanne and Bob . Bob is Vice Chairman and Executive Officer, General Electric, and Chairman and CEO, NBC Universal. Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now (CAN) recently announced plans to combine operations, bringing together the two leading organizations dedicated to accelerating and funding biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism spectrum disorders; to increasing awareness of the nation's fastest growing developmental disorder; and to advocating for the needs of affected families. Guest guest
Maybe you folks can get the Matt Savage Trio to perform at your concert. I hope that Matt's mother is doing all right...she apparently went in for some major surgery last month. On his website, it was mentioned that if anyone wanted to "donate", to make those donations not on her, but to ARI, in memory of Dr. Rimland. Alms for the autistic! Or better yet, buy front row seats and feed the girls a hefty dose of wheat and milk prior to the event? KS
Guest guest
Yikes, I wish this list group had some way in which we could edit our own messages after they are sent. What I wanted to add was, that even though I don't know much about Matt Savage, perhaps he would be sympathetic towards doing an "autism aid" type of concert which focusses on biomedical treatments/interventions. Instead of sending her flowers while she is in the hospital, his mother hoped that her friends would make donations to ARI, as Dr. Rimland's "life's work made it possible for Matt's inner light to shine through". I don't know what that encompasses, but Matt's mother's request is there, in the "scattin'" section, if one scrolls down the left section of the website I included earlier ( http://www.savagerecords.com/ ). Aasa P.S., I hope this young jazz pianist has not already been snapped up by the Autism Speaks concert. Guest guest
Out of those two, I would have to vote for Aerosmith. They certainly warped my senses as I grew up. Also, the BEP are the ones who did the song “let’s get retarded” and with the pressure, also put another version to the song, “let’s get it started” on the same album. I just don’t know that Fergie with her Fergilicous “London bridge falling down” is quite the right spokeswoman for the job. Unless we all wanna be hookers, and then, we are in! lol From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Chap 'n Ali Sent: Saturday, February 03, 2007 8:24 PM EOHarm Subject: RE: Re: Autism Speaks Concert I vote for Aerosmith and the Blackeyed Peas! Guest guest
My vote is for Rush, 30+ years of prog-rock excellence, new album due out in a couple months. Lyricist and drummer extraordinaire Neil Peart is always in tune with the environment, health issues, and global affairs .i.e 1983 release Grace Under Pressure. " and the men who hold high places, each must know his part, to mold a new reality, closer to the heart " … to bad nobody listened. > > > > > > > > > > Concert for Autism Speaks > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Bill Cosby and Toni Braxton Headline Concert for Autism > Speaks > > > > April 9 at > > > > > Frederick P.
