How often does he do something like this? Like, three times a week! Why now, why in this way. Why with proxies who have clear ties/relationships with the Clintons. Why right after he criticized the Clintons on the vaccine issue, probably an explosive issue for them? Coincidence? No way. And by the way, I don't hate anyone. Just telling it like I think it is. Imus This whole issue isn't about the women on the basketball team who were made fun of. It's not about making people's lives better. It's not about equal opportunity or fair wages. It's not about increasing the minimum wage. It just ended a few minutes ago and it gives A LOT of insight into what all is driving this. For one, and it was interesting that you pointed out that the Imus show has higher ratings than CNN during the same timeslot, because it was a CNN reporter that just about encouraged the girls to call for his firing. Some reporters were fair in their questions, but others are clearly going after him which I suppose is expected because he is so successful. Also interestingly, the girls stated that the reason they were holding the press conference was because the media wouldn't leave them alone. They are being called at home, at school, on their cell phones and being followed around. They said they couldn't ignore this because of the media attention. That says a lot. The CBS reporter tended to ask questions of the girls as if they were seeking insight into how they should handle him. They also spoke about women's issues being at hand here and it not just being a race issue. They said this was insulting to all women. Clearly, though, these girls were pretty fair. They are not asking for his demise, but they are taking issue with his comments being directed at them. Sadly, it struck me that this is, in many ways, worse than Mel Gibson and some of the others because he didn't direct his comments to a race as a whole, but directly at these very innocent girls. And they were not bitter or angry but instead were very sympathetic. I feel such tremendous empathy for Imus right now as I know he is just humiliated over this. But, I also feel tremendous empathy for these girls. They are clearly accomplished in more ways than just basketball and they were targeted by the joke and ever since by the media. They spoke of how this has taken over everything in their lives right now and instead of celebrating their accomplishment, they are dealing with this. It's a very sad situation all the way around. The good and bad news was that they did not give the stations license to fire him. And should be clear that there must be the highest level of empathy for the young women. Who are models to the school and community and didn't need this crap. That said, a bad reason is for the Clintons to try to muzzle Imus on thimerosal through Sharpton's race card tactics because it hurts Hillary's candidacy. You got to say that if the shoe fits.... Note how NOW got in so late. It was as much of a sexist comment as it was a racist comment, although there are elements of both in same. That she would teach those girls that some silly little man could make a comment that in turn could tarnish all they worked so hard for so easily. People in general, and men in particular, are going to say stupid things to women all of their lives. If what you do is only measured by what some jackass says about you and can be ruined so easily, then you didn’t do shit. You have no self-worth. No self-esteem. You can only have what someone allows you? I wouldn’t want to teach my daughter that. Those girls should have been celebrating their achievements and not letting this stuff affect them. That’s too bad that these adults can’t put the girl’s best interest first. I remember once Madonna was on Oprah (of all people...I know)...but Oprah asked her how she planned to raise her daughter. She said her main priority was to instill self respect. When Oprah asked her what she planned to teach her daughter about men, she said, " As long as I teach her self-respect...I don't have to teach her anything about men. " I loved that answer....no offense to the guys here...women can be just as bad, I know. Also it is interesting to note Jesee and Al Sharpton's outrage over this when as far as I can tell - they are silent when it comes to certain rappers who use very derogatory terms towards women in their songs.
