Hi

I had the flu injection this winter and didn't

experience any problems. But it might not have been

the same flu stream as in the USA. It was the chicken

egg based serum.

Hi ,

The laws on doctor-patient relationships might be different in Australia

from what they are in the US. More than a year ago I located a website

that actually showed the laws that govern the medical profession. I didn't

save the files though I now wish that I had.

A physician can refuse to treat a patient, but first the doctor-patient

relationship must be officially severed. In other words, the doctor has to

state, I assume by letter, that he or she does not wish to continue to

treat that patient. In a case like Susie's, it falls into some vague

discretionary category. In her doctor's opinion, she is not a good

transplant candidate, thus he will not submit her for evaluation. Of

course, he's not a transplant surgeon anyhow, so he isn't going to make the

final decision, but she has no other resources where she lives.

Her situation and many of ours are complicated by financial and insurance

considerations. To get another opinion, Susie has to travel to another

city. She's divorced with two children and can't afford to go through the

entire process in another city. Not many of us could handle the expense of

travel and hotels to another city for our primary medical care. We

traveled 720 miles round trip to and from San Diego for almost two years

and it was a tremendous drain on us, even though we were later (as long as

90 days) reimbursed for our expenses. If it weren't for a niece who got us

a discount at Holiday Inn, where she works, we couldn't have done it.

I don't know what legal liabilities Susie's doctor(s) have for refusal to

treat because of something as obscure as clinical depression. Like many

people who feel defeated by life, she probably doesn't have the will or

energy to pursue the matter legally and it could be that her insurance

doesn't give her many options about other doctors she can see. She's

getting Social Security disability pay, so I know her options must be

limited.

Many of us are having similar problems. It points out how flawed the

system can be. I'm putting my hopes on my new doctor who appears to be a

" fighter " with a good sense of priorities. He may end up being my

strongest advocate. Each of us needs to have someone who will fight for

us. We can't do this alone, though many of us seem to be trying because we

have no choice.

Take care,

Geri

Sometimes we can get the flu, even with the shot. There are more than one

kind of flu!

good morning...what people don't understand is that when you get the flu shot

it can take 2-6 week for your body to build up it's defenses against the

flu......so if you come in contact with someone with the flu before you're

defenses are built up you will get the flu........but hopefully not as

bad...........jo

I got the shot about 6-weeks ago and the sore throat flu is rampant here on

campus. Twice I have had my throat get sore, but it has never turned into

the cold and respritory problems everyone else has. So, I assume it must be

fighting it for me. Know that if it harbors in your chest - it may turn

into pneumonia.

Be well.

My son just came down with the flu yesterday (first time since he has

been on enzymes). Does anyone have any suggestions to make him more

comfortable - he is pretty miserable, but I hesitate to give him

anything since the dies and additives in most OTC medications make

him unable to rest or sit still in general. Any suggestions will be

greatly appreciated.

My daughter takes Motrin cold formula (dye free) and has no reaction

to it-now that I have No Fenol I do give that with the medication.

This helps with fever, stuffy nose, sinus, etc. It also seems to help

her with a cough. She used to react to the grape Tylenol but

tolerates that fine with No Fenol also. I hope your son feels better

soon.

I use Tylenol cold capsules, chopped up and mixed into the other

supplements in honey [including No-Fenol enzyme]. I can't use liquids

because of the heavy artificial color/flavor content, but capsules

have very little of that, so the reaction is minimal.

I got a flu shot this year for the first time. Now I'm glad I did. I

didn't get one in previous years because I hadn't had the flu in almost

10 years, knock on wood. But I broke down and got one last month,

before the vaccine was in short supply.

Hi Kathy-

Who told you not to get the flu shot? It is normally recommended for those

with a chronic illness....Cary

You are so right...society needs to kick it up a knotch and make it socially

unacceptable for people with communicable illnesses to go out in public

without a mask...some peoples lives depend on it!

I am terrified when sitting in the board room at work at our usual morning

meeting when there is someone sputtering and hacking...I excuse

myself...some take the hint and don't come to the meeting now....

But nothing stops those who are checking out your groceries or serving your

coffee etc...

Maybe Micheal has it right..wear a mask...they do in japan!

Thanks for letting me vent

actually, the flu is not airborne. but it is spread by droplets and contact,

so ideally if the person with the flu wore the mask, it would help.

otherwise, you could wear a mask, get some on your finger, rub your eye, and get

the

flu. bah humbug, huh?! cary

Everyone:

All I know is I only got a flu shot once. Then two days after it I had a

cold. Two days after that I had the flu, and two days after that I had

pneumonia. I almost died. I will never get another flu shot again.

Where do you get thyme? Do you mean fresh and make a tea, or is there a brand of

drops, like the Oil of Oregano? Thanks.

Flu

This came from my neurodevelopmental list, might be some useful information

here.

Flu vaccine contains mercury.

The current vaccine doesn't impart immunity to the strain of flu that is

sickening people.

The nasal flu vaccine has live virus and can actually spread the flu - wonder

if that is what is happening in places like Colorado?

Use common sense and prepare to keep your family healthy and care for them if

they get sick.

A few things off the top of my head and Lori Hora may pipe in here with some

homeopathic remedies that you can have on hand in case anyone gets sick.

1. Wash hands much and don't put hands in mouth. That's how most of it

spreads. I always wonder about those grocery cart handles....

2. Sugar suppresses the immune system by a significant amount for many hours

afer ingestion. Improve everyone's diet and don't eat sugar. YOU know what

to do....

3. Being low in zinc 30 days lowers immunity a huge amount - 80% or so.

Have some zinc losenges and pass them around every morning.

4. Supplement Vit C every morning, too. At least 1 gram and have a big jar

on hand in case anyone gets sick.

5. Make sure everyone is getting full complement of vitamins: A,B,C,D,E,

cal/mg/ainc

6. Supplements that support immunity: astragalas, beta glucan, red clover

and then have some Thymic A on hand in case anyone gets sick. Fenugreek and

Thyme thins mucous in case anyone gets stuffy. I also use lactoferrin from

www.beyond-a-century.com This imparts the benefits of colostrum in a more

concentrated form and is best price from above. I have also heard good things

about

Sambucol but haven't used. Worth getting just from what I've heard.

7. Get a cold mist humidifier and have a good supply of hydrogen peroxide on

hand. If someone is getting sick, put the humidifier in the bedroom next to

the bed at night with a peroxide solution: 5 bottles of water to 3 bottles of

peroxide. Often this will clear it up over night. Stand over it yourself

and breathe deeply if you are getting sick.

8. Make chicken broth soup and have on hand. It really does work.

9. If someone gets sick, don't automatically suppress fever which has been

shown to prolong illness. The body heats up to fight infection, especially

viruses. When we are sick around here, the goal is to 'make yourself sweat' -

wrap in blankets and stocking hat with heater on until you break a sweat. If

fever gets too high (your call), use white willow bark or ANYTHING but

tylenol.

10. If someone gets sick, beside peroxidizer (see above), good results from

oil of oregano, olive leaf extract, echinacea/goldenseal and continue above

herbs. I give 2 grams of Vit C every hour until bowel tolerance - you'll know

it when it hits.

11. Get a good probiotic and have it available for someone getting sick.

12. Learn KI - www.kinginstitute.org

13. Protein with every meal. No cold cereal breakfast. Cook and eat real

food - no processed, packaged, chemical, etc.

I'm sure I'm leaving some things out but it's a start. If you don't have a

copy of Prescription for Nutritional Healing - run out and buy this instead of

getting the flu shot.....

Jill,

My guess is that with the vitamins, minerals, healthy foods, etc., all other

things being equal, our kids would be less susceptible to this flu.

remember, too, the media is really blowing this thing up. Did you know that

last year 68,000 people died from flu or complications. They don't tell you

that.

Oh, and the flu shot people choose to take for only God knows what reason

does not even contain the flu that most people are contracting.

Wash your hands and your kids hands often, take a lot of Vitamin C and other

antioxidants. Drink a lot of water.

Even with all that we may get sick--however, we'll get better faster.

Hope everyone stays well,

Robin

I was introduced to another aspect of the flu problem this week. My

daughter HAS to work, so her kids must be in daycare. Naturally,

they are going to get whatever is going around. The doctor would not

give the triplets a flu shot, as he said they had not been preemie

enough, and her 3-year old didn't need one. So Monday all 4 kids

came down with the flu, high fevers, etc. She had to pick them up

and keep them home Monday and yesterday and fortunately I was able to

fill in for her at work, after caring for the little ones for a few

hours while she attended one college class (one professor let her

email her presentation so she could stay home Monday.) What we need

in this small town, and I'm told it's just not possible due to only

having one large employer (and that one on shaky ground) is a " sick

child " daycare. Some place where parents can take a sick child where

they would get care while they're ill and the parents wouldn't have

to miss work. Around here, if an employee misses too much work, they

are fired, no bones about it.

All four kids are fine today, parents are hoping they don't get the

flu; Ron and I had our shots last month, but hope it covers this flu!

Peace,

Judi

This Flu is scary isn't it?! We shouldn't worry day in and day out

though because that does no good and the extra stress could make us

sick. But, we can be more proactive by raising our daily Vit C

(We're up to more than 3,000 mg for my husband and me and between

500mg and 1,000mg for the kids, 3 and 6 yrs old). Might want to up

your Zinc as well. We take Brainchild Minerals which has a

wonderful mixture of minerals (it includes Zinc). Vit E can be good

too. Just as important, have everybody wash, wash, wash their hands

often throughout the day, especially right before a meal.

For me, if I have the choice of taking my children out during this

Flu season to a store or not, I choose not. I feel, why take the

risk during such a dangerous season if I really don't need to. I'm

thankful that we are homeschooling, so that helps a lot too.

You could request that the teacher please make sure the kids wash

their hands more often during this time of season (which I believe

lasts through March, but not sure).

Best wishes for a healthy winter,

Gretchen

I hear that! At my workplace it is hard because on a hospital unit if

someone calls in sick you are short and then you worry about patient care. But

you

can't come in sick because you don't want to expose the patients to anything.

It's a real catch-22.......Cary

I know it is easier said than done....

But don't you think Gov't should legislate workplaces to become more health

consious with regard to infectious disease?

I live in Canada and it is difficult to 'get away' with firing a person

without proper reason....I have 70 employees..a guess...and when they are

sick they are sick I say nothing as I would rather them stay home and get

well than make others sick...however there is no sick pay allowance for them

and that needs to be changed in my opinion...and if people didn't take

advantage of the sick days off I believe it would work...times they are a

changing....so Primeminister Chrechen/ (we are in the middle of a

switch, and President Bush need to get real about Illness...and peoples

needs and rights....
