NYT, Lilly hid data on Schizophrenia drug

According to a front page article in today’s NYT, Eli

Lilly told its sales force to “downplay” the risk of weight gain

and hyperglycemia (elevation of blood sugar related to diabetes) in its drug

Zyprexa, it’s best selling product with sales of $4.2 BILLION last year.

Now, if you have a loved one with schizophrenia, you might decide that a huge

weight gain and/or diabetes is preferable to the agony of mental illness. I

understand that. But shouldn’t you KNOW? Shouldn’t your doctor

know?

We see case after case where every pharmaceutical company

has downplayed, hidden or lied about the risks of the pills they create, and this

makes front page news. And drugs are pulled from the market.

And yet, when we ask about the safety of vaccines we are

branded as lunatic parents and quack researchers.

Why the disconnect? I hope this adds another chink in the

armor of the “it’s genetics and “environment” knights

in tarnished armor.
