Guest guest
This is from another report of the incident from Saturday. Apparently, some cut it out of their story. " State police say Dyer told them her son is autistic and that she puts cardboard boxes in front of the door to keep him from getting out. " Since we're already going tabliod, here's another sad story: Missing autistic boy found dead in river http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20994326-1702,00.html A five-year-old autistic boy missing from his home in south suburban Adelaide since about 8.30pm (CDT) on Saturday has been found dead in a nearby river, police say. Police and state emergency services had spent most of the night searching for the boy, who was believed to have climbed over the front gate of his Noarlunga Downs home and wandered off. The search was resumed at 8am on Sunday morning. His body was found in the Onkaparinga River just before 10am. Police said the boy's body had been spotted from the sky by the Adelaide Bank rescue helicopter. A report would be prepared for the coroner, a police spokesman said. > > > > http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,240337,00.html > > Feces on the walls of his home, mom was found napping & was arrested > > for neglect. > > Is there anyone here from Indy that could give the law enforcement > > agencies some training & help find this poor worn out woman some > > support? > > jbb > > >
Guest guest
I live in Indy, I've seen all of the local news reports and none of them said anything about the boy having autism. Can you send me the link that you got this report from? I can get her some supports if I can verify.....

Guest guest
While I am not going to make any attempt to defend the mother's actions in this case, I would like to comment upon one item that was presented in the " indychannel " report. This report mentions that the " investigators said there was feces on the walls of the home and trash was everywhere " . This was reported as indicative of the mother's incompetance as a parent, justifying CPS removing the children from the home. As the parent of an autistic child (who is basically a pretty good kid) I will say that it does not take a young Autist long to ransack a place, and what was a newspaper, a couple of magazines and some misc. which would NOT be seen as trash when neatly stacked on an end table will quickly look like a cyclone's remnants when shredded and strewn. We could have made a fulltime career out of going behind my boy and picking up after him had we chose to do so. Fecal smearing is another aspect of dealing with an autistic child. On a messageboard I frequent that is geared towards teachers, a news report about Marcus Feisel mentioned that feces smeared on the walls was one of the reasons he was taken from his biological mother and placed into foster (which many will recall ended very, very badly for Marcus). We experienced fecal smearing for a week before I figured out that the problem could be circumvented by using that staple of the handyman's toolkit - duct tape. It took about a year of securely taping the tops of his diapers to get him to loose the desire to " pudding paint " . Again, I am not saying that this woman is or is not a fit mother. I do know that raising an Autist can be a daunting challenge at best, and when the social service systems ignore the huge unmet need that (especially single ) mothers face in caring for these children, bad situations like this one are guaranteed to happen again and again. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I totally agree. I just last weekend had a family member try to shame me because my other kids have to witness Allie screaming when she gets scared in a routine upset. Funny when I was a kid and my parents where beating the crap out of each other these same members weren't the slightest concerned about my well-being, but now that I have a child with autism, and doing everything we can to help her (and she's rather mild) that suddenly there's this horrid family problem. It doesn't take an NT kid long to ransack a house, much less a kid with autism. There have been many times while I was trying to clean one room she was smearing crap all over the walls of another room. Then while trying to clean that up she's dumping books & toys in another room, etc. I hope this mom gets the truth of the situation found, what ever it is. Parents of ASD kids can be crappy, and parents of ASD kids can be the world, and the outside certainly doesn't have a clue what we experience. Guest guest
I am not going to defend this person as a mother either because I dont know the whole story. BUT I am concerned as well about the indication that she was neglectful because there was trash strewn out and feces on the wall. When my son was not potty trained ( till about 5 years old) he would smear his junk all over his wall contantly. Mostly at night. I swear I could check on him one minute after I put him to bed and then go in 15 min later to the most disgusting smells. Of course we all know how bad our kids poop can smell but not just that he had done it is was all over his sheets all over the wall near his bed and smeared into the carpet !!! I would be on my hands and knees at midnight or sometimes later ( he stayed up alot b.4 he was on the diet ) scrubbing crap off the floor and no matter what I used the carpet still would never come clean enough even if I scrubbed every spot I knew of, cleaned the walls, changed his sheets etc the room would still wreak and this happened alot. My son is now 10yrs old and has progressed a long way since then. He is completely potty trained and his bowels have improved since he has been on the diet. Still a couple of months ago I came into his room one morning and it smelled horrible like feces. I pulled the covers down and he had stripped his clothes. Then of course I was on the hunt for the pile of dump. I found his pajamas and underwear balled up with his crap mushed down in them. I was totally shocked because like I said this has not happened in years!!! Why did he do it ? who knows.. Oh God is he going to start this again on a regular basis ?? who knows... my point is our kids do these things sometimes and it is an exhausting effort to keep up w/ them. With the recent incident his room smelled nasty for days no matter how much air freshener I used. If someone were to come into my home during that time would I be considered a bad mother?? maybe .. but I am not, I feel like a deserve a gold medal for not losing my mind all the years I cleaned up the floors walls and bedding. People who dont go thru the same things we face constantly have no idea how hard it can be. __________________________________________________
