Guest guest
Great points. I'm in. Let's Stop Whining About the CAA, Please! Let's Stop Whining About the CAA, Please! The CAA was designed by the Santorum/pharma interests and is beingpassed into law into the form it was always intended to have: moremoney for public health agency friendly "tobacco science" autismresearch, plus plenty of chunks of cash for non-threatening autismawareness programs designed to keep the larger autism organizationsfat, complacent and co-opted. Bernie Rimland was right to point out that it was foolish to expectthe perpetrators of the epidemics of chronic diseases to fund researchthat would expose their own duplicity. Let us not mourn over thesnakes who produce laws favoring snakes. But also let us forgive ourfriends who were bedazzled by the snakes' rattles and charms.1. The answer is to raise private money to fund the real relevant andindependent research. 2. Raise money for the legal and political defense of those damaged bythe pharma/government powers. We can continue to build an alliance of non-pharma-partisan groups andindividuals into a grass roots network. Autism Speaks has absorbed themajor status quo autism research funding organizations under onebanner with a ten year spent-tens-of-millions, did-nothing legacy. They have left a terrible vaccuum for raising money for real researchand advocacy. We can fill that void. We have already started. Lenny

Guest guest
Please. stop. really. the danger of this bill - besides that now congress will send us packing for the next five years since we already dipped into the well - is that our community will never come together, never work together, never go forward until and unless the issue of vaccines is put to rest, one way or another. we have this enormous divide that we cannot get past. Personally, i don't care if it's vaccines, or anything else, but just PROVE IT or DISPROVE IT and let's move on. We can never go forward until we resolve this. So those who backed a bill with no environmental language, are equally responsible for screwing this community and relegating us to more years of bickering and unresolved issues and bipartisan crap. Our kids and their futures are too important to keep this shit up. How many more years, decades, are we all willing to tolerate this divide? And what do we lose in the meantime? time. the one thing that we can never get back. fuck the money, fuck the politics, fuck the egos. Does this bill help my kids? no. Will it help yours? no. I didn't whine. I DID. I called, faxed, read, rewrote this piece of shit legislation from the ground up. I walked the halls in DC. I marched with signs in DC. I railed against it for over a year. I cajoled, yelled, begged those orgs who supported the bill to no avail. and here we still are, with a shit bill. So Lenny, join me in a drink to what we've lost. Another shot at a united community and years more of nothing on a federal level. Guest guest
I don't post here often, but I read all the digests I get and try to keep up with the discussions. I would like to add to what Lenny said about not whining over the passage of the CAA. It was a bogus bill to start with and the outcome was as predictable as a Chicago election. I agree that the ONLY way the autism community will get satisfaction in determining the extent of environmental sources contributing to the autism pandemic is to fund the research ourselves. I'm sure there are HONEST dedicated competent scientists eager to be funded by private groups. I would like to suggest A-Champ start to identify these scientists, and raise some money for them. The pharmaceutical companies and the pediatricians will NEVER admit they play a huge part in this. We can't really blame them for screwing up in the first place. They are under the illusion that they are the smartest people in the world. We can certainly blame them for covering up, though. Covering their tracks exposed them for the fools they really are. I've spent over 25 years supplying materials to the scientific and medical community. The vast overwhelming majority of people in these industries that I've spoken to in the eight years since my son's diagnosis have agreed that lacing vaccines with mercury, aluminum and all the other assorted crap, and then forcing an ever increasing number of injections on an unsuspecting public is fundamentally stupid, if not criminal. I think that after A-Champ funds the research, they need to raise money to buy some real autism friendly politicians and then we can really raise a ruckus. Where do I send my check? Guest guest
I read most of " The Virus and The Vaccine " and they talked about nation-wide fundraising on local levels for polio help. I think they had balls or something like that in every major city on the same night, same month. If we could get A-Champ or whom ever to help organize something like that, we could raise some funds, I think. I know our local autism org has a fund just for research. I know a few board members <wink> who would consider donating. Good ole Al was talking about having a video party around the country for some tree-hugging something or another. We could do that with autism, have some sort of in-home party, invite friends & family to attend, watch a video, donate money. We could team up with some home party group like tupperware, mary kay, etc. There are all sorts of ideas out there. I know it doesn't sound like much, but if 10 parties in one town yield $1000 or so and we do it across the country in hundreds of towns, we're looking at some good starting funds. Our country was founded on a group of people willing to buck the system to make things better. I think the autism community ourselves have a lot of those people. Waiting on the gov for anything is the least we need to do. Debi > > > I don't post here often, but I read all the digests I get and try to keep up > with the discussions. Guest guest
Harry, thanks for your comments. I think you are right on the money. As a matter of fact, watch in the next few days for an exciting announcement from the Friends of A-CHAMP Research and Education Project, Inc. regarding our Alan D. , M.D. Memorial Research Fund and an exciting scientific research project that we are supporting. I think you will find it interesting and pointed in the right direction. We are absolutely not whining about CAA - we are moving on to more important things that will truly help our kids. Guest guest
Thank you for having the courage to stand on principle when it was needed. I am proud of the people who publicly rejected supporting this bill. They were concerned about fragmenting relationships throughout many autism organizations. The lack of effective coalition building, communication, parental advocacy, organization and shoe string budgets are major reasons for us getting a bad bill. I appreciate the integrity and dedication of the many organizations that supported this bill. I am confused about seeing these groups advocate with great energy for environmental/ vaccine issues and support this bill. It is critical that the organizations that supported this bill explain their position on the lack of environmental funding and why the bill deserved their support. This would make for some great presentations with a Q and A at the next DAN, AutismOne, or Autismfair type events. Failure to do so will further damage our ability to advocate effectively for our children. This debate within our community needs to happen. I hope we can have it without personal attacks and emerge stronger. I know many are laughing at that. We have been dealt a severe blow with the passage of this bill. I have read the language, consulted with many bright people on both sides and formed a position based on principle and not false hope of what might happen in appropriations or that the new congress is going to embrace autism. We should push for press statements / Interviews from Maloney, Burton, Weldon, , Clinton, Schumer, Ted Kennedy, Leiberman, McCain and many others. Sorry about the whining! > > > > > > I don't post here often, but I read all the digests I get and try > to keep up > > with the discussions. That is certainly a worthwhile endeavor. However, if you wish to donate for research, then it must be done through The Friends of A-CHAMP Research and Education Project, which is an authorized 501©3, non-profit organization separate but complimentary of A-CHAMP (one can engage in politic activities and one is a non-profit for research and education purposes) which has been chosen to administer the Alan D. , M.D. Memorial Research Fund. Dr. Alan , the late husband of A-CHAMP founding Board Member Lujene , passed away on February 7, 2006. One of his final wishes was to see his work continue regarding the dangers of mercury in vaccines. It was in his honor, and as his legacy, that this fund was established to continue Alan's endeavors on behalf of children worldwide. The Alan D. , M.D. Memorial Research Fund was established by his wife, Lujene, to provide grants to physicians and researchers striving to prevent, protect and reverse the devastating effects of mercury, particularly when used in medicine. The fund will be administered through The Friends of A-CHAMP Research and Education Project.Donations may be made to The Alan D. , M.D. Memorial Research Fund, c/o US Bank, 2208 S. Grand Avenue, Carthage, Missouri 64836. Currently donations can be made by check but we anticipate having the ability to donate via the web within the next few days. Additionally, the community can expect an exciting announcement about the awarding of the first research grant within the next few days. Thank you. Guest guest
It would be interesting to see Clinton's interview given that she was instrumental in lobbying for and heping administer the mandatory vaccine program- yeah, the one that poisoned all of our kids. Re: Let's Stop Whining About the CAA, Please! Thank you for having the courage to stand on principle when it was needed.I am proud of the people who publicly rejected supporting this bill. They were concerned about fragmenting relationships throughout many autism organizations. The lack of effective coalition building, communication, parental advocacy, organization and shoe string budgets are major reasons for us getting a bad bill. I appreciate the integrity and dedication of the many organizations that supported this bill.I am confused about seeing these groups advocate with great energy for environmental/ vaccine issues and support this bill. Guest guest
Bob, Is A-CHAMP still going to follow the money of the CAA to see where the funds are being allocated and for which studies? - From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Krakow Sent: Thursday, December 07, 2006 12:55 AM EOHarm Subject: Re: Re: Let's Stop Whining About the CAA, Please!
