You just forgot about AGRE, the project aimed at locating autistic genes for a future genocide! Leif
Guest guest
No one said I was for aborton concerning autism, I've spoken against it. Point is autism is a disability, research dolars should not be blocked and the whole anti-cure and pro-cure is nonsense. There are quality of life issues in real life dispite A.F.F stupid problems and divsional tactics. It has set a bad example, also autism is a disability unless its symtoms reduce. There is otherwise and underestimation that is unjustified given the core elements of autism being the impairment it is. > > > investigators are using animal models to study how the neurotransmitter > > serotonin establishes connections between neurons in hopes of discovering > > why these connections are impaired in autism > > Useless research > > > researchers are testing a computer-assisted program that would help > > autistic children interpret facial expressions > > Also useless > > > a brain imaging study is investigating areas of the brain that are > > active during obsessive/repetitive behaviors in adults and very > > young children with autism > > Useless > > > other imaging studies are searching for brain abnormalities that > > could cause impaired social communication in children with autism > > Useless > > > clinical studies are testing the effectiveness of a program that > > combines parent training and medication to reduce the disruptive > > behavior of children with autism and other ASDs > > Quite useless when they are clueless as to the causes of > disruptive behavior. > > , you have just yourself provided the evidences > that funding money is going into useless research. OK, then I won't hold this against you anymore. > Point is autism is a disability, research dolars should not be blocked > and the whole anti-cure and pro-cure is nonsense. > > There are quality of life issues in real life dispite A.F.F stupid > problems and divsional tactics. My point below was that none of the research presented have anything to do with quality of life for autistics. 1. Animal models of autism are useless. Autism is a human condition, not an animal condition. 2. Serotonin research is useless. It is well established that serotonin is related to perceived group status in other animals. 3. Learning to recognize facial expressions might be useful, but would still not become anywhere near automatic. 4. Finding " brain locations " for OCD is useless because it is a behavioral trait, not brain injury. 5. Finding " brain locations " for social behavior is useless on the same grounds. 6. I already commented why it is useless to study disruptive behavior on a medical basis when it is clearly related to environment. Setting aside the " horrible " people at AFF that opposes this research, do you seriously believe that this research is in the best interests of autistics? Guest guest
Any and all research that does not harm an individual is welcome. Some research and all research that is in the benifit of reducing symtoms and helping the individual live a better life is welcome. As long as it does not harm a person, does not force someone against there will. > > > > > > > investigators are using animal models to study how the > > neurotransmitter > > > > serotonin establishes connections between neurons in hopes of > > discovering > > > > why these connections are impaired in autism > > > > > > Useless research > > > > > > > researchers are testing a computer-assisted program that would help > > > > autistic children interpret facial expressions > > > > > > Also useless > > > > > > > a brain imaging study is investigating areas of the brain that are > > > > active during obsessive/repetitive behaviors in adults and very > > > > young children with autism > > > > > > Useless > > > > > > > other imaging studies are searching for brain abnormalities that > > > > could cause impaired social communication in children with autism > > > > > > Useless > > > > > > > clinical studies are testing the effectiveness of a program that > > > > combines parent training and medication to reduce the disruptive > > > > behavior of children with autism and other ASDs > > > > > > Quite useless when they are clueless as to the causes of > > > disruptive behavior. > > > > > > , you have just yourself provided the evidences > > > that funding money is going into useless research. Guest guest
: > Any and all research that does not harm an individual is welcome. Only problem is there is only so much money to fund autism research. If lots of useless research projects are funded, useful projects might not be funded. > Some > research and all research that is in the benifit of reducing symtoms > and helping the individual live a better life is welcome. I agree. Leif
Guest guest
I talked to the writer, Bob . That's not the full article. He'll e-mail me a full one Friday. He got his #s from MD DOE and realizes MD's total autism figures includes those not yet identified; 0-21 and 21+. msherrett. What is autism? Anyone from land care to write this paper and give them some true facts? http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?pnpID=659 & NewsID=727903 & Categor yID=4630 & show=localnews & om=3 What is autism? 06/22/06 Email this story to a friend Autism is a developmental disability and a spectrum disorder, meaning it affects each child differently and with varying degrees of severity. Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Recent research suggests that autism is most likely a group of disorders, not just one disorder. According to a recent Newsweek cover story on autism, scientists have found differences in the brain anatomy of autistic people, but they are uncertain whether these differences are caused by autism or if autism causes them. Autism on the rise: According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention, about 1 in 166 American children are born with some degree of autism. This figure has increased dramatically since the early 1970s when autism, if diagnosed at all, was usually mistaken for retardation or mental illness. According to the Autism Society of America, there are currently somewhere between 1 million and 1.5 million Americans with autism. During the 1990s, diagnosed cases of autism increased by 172 percent while the overall U.S. population increased by only 13 percent. According to the land State Department of Education, there were 5,288 children with autism enrolled in the state's public schools in 2005. This was up from 260 in 1993, although some of the increase reflects a marked increase in recent years number of children whose autism is actually diagnosed. Early warning signs: A recent study conducted by the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry said that warning signs for autism sometimes appear in children as young as 2. These sometimes include poor eye contact, reduced responsive smiling, reduced social responsiveness and difficulty with language, play and social interaction. - Bob -------- gets better.
