Guest guest
REPEAT POST... This time I got 15,800 results (0.27 seconds) Yes, and I too have this lifelong dream to Google search my last name and the phrase "conflict of interest" that results in 22,100 hits... in .11 seconds. http://tinyurl.com/nfdyn conflict of interest Google search: Offit conflict of interest search: Offit conflict of interest (results: 1,120 hits in 1.35 seconds) http://tinyurl.com/lr4nx of course the real success would be to have it repeated in an encyclopedia... http://www.nomercury.org/science/documents/GRC_6-15-00.pdf FACA: CONFLICTS OF INTEREST AND VACCINE DEVELOPMENT—PRESERVING THE INTEGRITY OF THE PROCESS HEARING BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT REFORM HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES JUNE 15, 2000 ...At our April 6th autism hearing, Dr. Offit disclosed that he holds a patent on a rotavirus vaccine and receives grant money from Merck to develop this vaccine. He also disclosed that he is paid by the pharmaceutical industry to travel around the country and teach doctors that vaccines are safe. Dr. Offit is a member of the CDC’s advisory committee and voted on three rotavirus issues, including making the recommendation of adding the rotavirus vaccine to the Vaccines for Children program. http://www.pharmabiz.com/article/detnews.asp?SecArch= & articleid=31779 & sectionid=14 US FDA approves Merck's Rotateq to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis February 06, 2006 "Virtually all children will experience rotavirus. While some children experience mild symptoms of rotavirus, infection can be severe and lead to dehydration that can be fatal," said Offit, chief of infectious diseases, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and co-inventor of the vaccine. "The FDA approval of this vaccine is exciting for pediatricians because they will now have a way to help protect infants from rotavirus. For the many people who have worked on the research and development of this vaccine for nearly 20 years, to see that effort result in the availability of a vaccine to prevent this common and unpredictable disease is something to be proud of," added Offit. Rotateq can be given during the current routine well baby visits at two, four, and six months of age. It is ready-to-use without re-formulation or mixing and is the only oral vaccine approved for use in infants in the US. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is expected to decide whether Rotateq should be added to the current paediatric immunisation schedule of recommended vaccines later this month, claims the company release...The FDA approval of Rotateq is based on data from Merck's Phase III clinical trials of more than 70,000 infants, including the Rotavirus Efficacy and Safety Trial (REST), one of the largest pre-licensure vaccine clinical trials ever conducted. http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT00090233 http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/354/1/23 The New England Journal of Medicine January 2006 Safety and Efficacy of a Pentavalent Human–Bovine (WC3) Reassortant Rotavirus Vaccine. Conclusions This vaccine was efficacious in preventing rotavirus gastroenteritis, decreasing severe disease and health care contacts. The risk of intussusception was similar in vaccine and placebo recipients. (ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00090233 [ClinicalTrials.gov] .) I think that it's just similar to over here. We have some intelligent people with some common sense who speak the truth and then there are the "officials". I heard through a good source from England that a GP over there went on tv this morning or yesterday spouting off about the wonders of this Prevenar vaccine. Guess what this official said? He/she quoted from that horrible propaganda (or study) of Offit's about how the babies' immune systems can handle 10,000 vaccines at one time? Can you imagine being a doctor and actually believing and/or going on tv to say that a baby can handle 10,000 vaccines at one time. What the hell?!?! Takes my breath away... Sue M.
