Guest guest
I'll paste below, an email which one of our Ontario advocates for increased support for school-aged children diagnosed with autism, posted to another list group. Today's announcement from our government was another disappointment for many parents. Our province "wins" and these parents and their kids (including others in similar situations) "lose" again. Our province will lose big-time, if the folks in charge can't see past the ends of their noses, and give these children the support they need now, in a timely way, without bankrupting their parents (nevermind thoroughly eroding any good will these parents may have had towards our current government in the past). I don't mean to be a "stick in the mud", but I can't help but wonder how others can ever be educated to see the "light of day" regarding needed/helpful interventions for autism, vaccine/mercury damage and other environmental issues, if even this group of parents, who have been fighting to get support for their now school-aged children, are turned down yet again, even though they were fighting to get the supposedly only "proven" therapy for their children. If our government won't even fund "proven" therapies past age 6, there is next to no chance of them funding the "unproven" therapies. What a cycle to have to interrupt! Best wishes to us all! Aasa Here is a cut and paste from the top of my mailing tonight to my e-mail group: Here is the link for the Appeal Court Decision..... http://www.ontariocourts.on.ca/decisions_index/new_releases.htm Go to the website and scroll down. There are three texts. The top one is the five page summary. -------------------------------- It was a roller coaster day today. I was interviewed on the phone this morning by Global Television, who then said they wished to meet with me and the kids before the media conference. After the media conference, I spoke briefly with a Sun reporter. My connection to the media stuff today was in regards to "the letter". It was posted beside the media table, blown up to a poster sized board. Dr. Sheila Loredo, a plaintiff in the Wynberg case, along with Eberts and MPP Martel made statements and provided answers for all the media. This lasted almost an hour. Then while on the way home, I got a call on my cell phone from Global again, stating that Anne Chambers had announced that nobody who is currently recieving funding over age 6 will be cut off, that the funding will continue for children who need it. I was then asked and complied to attend at the Global building and provide a further statement regarding this. Much of my comments of course were left on the cutting room floor - all about the need for ABA to be provided in school, how so many children both under 6 and over 6 are languishing on the waiting list, etc, etc, etc.
