Guest guest
The reason the CAA has been killed is simple. The Abramoff Republican leadership needs a lot of campaign cash to help them from losing the congress in the upcoming election. Pharma has no doubt put up a bundle -- with one of the paybacks being kill the CAA. There you have it: follow the money. Or in this case, follow the blood money, our children's blood. This is the only explaination that makes sense of Barton's hard-nosed actions quibbling over the NIH. Santorum and Co. played us. Barton is doing what he is told. The irony here is that the CAA is still a piece of crap when it comes to relevant environmental research, but still enough of a threat to pharma who stand to lose untold billions should a vaccine-autism link be better established. The issue now however is that the political strength of the autism community is being tested and we therefore must hold our noses and defend the CAA passage, which like it or not, has become a symbol of our resolve.
