Guest guest
Dr Englander has been a Dan Dr for many years. I have heard very mixed things about her. We have never used her personally but I do know a few who did and wound up leaving her practice. We use Dr Hubbuch in Newton MA who is very good. She has a waitlist into December. She accepts BC/BS insurance. You may want to try Dr Comia in CT. she has a shorter wait list. She has a child with autism and is up on the newer interventions. Dr Lynch is in NorthHampton MA but I have heard he is not to up on the latest interventions. He has a short wait list also. Dr kong is in Boston and has an older child with autism. I think she is a new Dan doctor and have not heard about anyone using her. Best wishes! --- Ed d <eddbree@...> wrote: > Hi, > I'm looking to you folks on this list who are in the > New England area > for opinions. Guest guest
Englander/Great Plains.....would not recommend; the only ones I would recommend : 1. Pam Ferro, Massachusetts, (Mattapoissett), Hopewell Associates...excellent 2. a DAN doctor, also an MD.:.Dr. O’Hara, CT.........Do a google...excellent, 3. These are usually covered by insurance, but they specialize in GI so you would want to supplement with DAN type doc) Dr. Buie, GI specialist, may be closed to new patients; he may be referring to Dr. Hardy, another GI specialist at Mass Geenral, who is also good (NOT Hardy) no one else I would personally recommend......Hubuch I do not know, but would seriously check out. IF YOU HAVE A DECENT DR/SPECIALIST WHICH YOUR INSURANCE COVERS, THEY CAN SIGN OFF ON TESTS ORDERED BY DAN DOCTORS e-mail me off line if you want to discuss specific details and/or medical personnel Suzanne Messina REAACH From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Fund Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2006 10:55 AM EOHarm Subject: Re: Great Plains Lab/ Dr. Englender in Mass. Guest guest
Ed; See what Andy Cutler has to say: / I saw Englander 5 years ago and thought she knew her stuff but she's very expensive and wouldn't take insurance. It's my opinion that Cutler is more expert than any doctor and it's free to learn about chelation from him. > > Hi, > I'm looking to you folks on this list who are in the New England area > for opinions. Guest guest
This post isn't really fair to Dr. Englander, although that probably wasn't your intent. We do not see her, however, she has an excellent reputation for the quality of her care. I've got three kids to treat and I'm the very first to holler about the impossible expense of helping our kids. By the way, the exalted Dr. Margaret Baumann at Mass General's Ladders Program no longer accepts insurance either. I got that straight from the Ladders' program itself last Spring. Few of the DAN! docs are able to accept insurance due to the constraints of the insurance industry, not greed or anything about the doc him or herself. I've grumbled to myself and to others about this disparity myself. But it's part of the reality of autism being an " orphan " psych diagnosis in the coding system. A DAN! doc visit typically runs 2 - 4 hours. Pediatricians bill in 15 minute appointment increments and get reimbursement by the number of patients they see per day. It adds up -- 16 payments in 4 hours versus a DAN! who might get 1 payment. And don't forget, the DANS! get no income from vaccinations -- a huge dent in their revenue as physicians. Plus there's the staffing required to manage insurance. Most DANS! will code your paperwork perfectly for you so that can submit as an out of network provider. It's the insurance system that's broken, not the docs. Although when you write those checks out (or put the charges on a credit card) it's easy to say " that DAMN DAN! Guest guest
Parents should do their homework and look for people who have actually used these doctors to get the best feedback. Equally important, one would want to research, and google, the activities of these doctors, the events they may be engaged in, the quality and standards of those events, and the assurance of very specific feedback on those events, especially when money is involved. Expenses are high for DAN docs many of the reasons lists by Kim; that is almost a given. What is not equal across the board is the delivery method and the ease of understanding and implementation of diagnosis/protocol by parents, among other things. It is a given that one may be able to find an excellent DAN doctor, but may have to travel a bit for that. Well worth it, and this I don know from personal experience, which is again why I recommend Pam Ferro, Hopewell Associates, Mattapoisett, MA; AND Dr. O’Hara, CT. Guest guest
I'll be more specific. Englander charged me $325 for a one hour appointment and $75 for 3 bottles of supplements. One of the pills was so large, I would not have tried to swallow it myself. No chance my son could choke it down. If she saw 8 patients per day, that's $2,600 per day, $13,000 per week, $52,000+ per month. Let's not try to justify that unless she can play left field and hit home runs. My son is progressing very well and I have not paid Andy Cutler a dime. Like I said, I think Englander knows what she's doing. Andy also knows what he's doing. Why pay outrageous doctor bills when you can learn it yourself for free? Guest guest
It’s more Dr. Englander’s personality that some people have a problem with. We go to her and my husband and I like her very much. She has 20+ years experience with chelation. It is important for every parent to do their own homework in regards to treating their children with Autism because other parents sometimes have suggestions that DANs may not agree with. Dr. E. partners with us very well even though I may not agree with everything she says. She has taken appropriate tests, been cautious when necessary, been aggressive when necessary, etc. But I was not looking for someone warm and fuzzy. If you are she’s not the one for you, she tough and says it like it is. Guest guest
The money part sucks but it is what it is. My doc charges $310 an hour in person and $285 an hour on the phone. That is more than a phone sex operator – and the doctor doesn’t even talk dirty to me!!!! Most DAN docs charge for phone calls, they have too otherwise parents would just call whenever or not book in-person appts and just do freebie phone consults and they’d lose their butts. Guest guest
Hey, there's this doctor in Reno who would " fit the bill " (he called me " hot mama " , asked my age, wanted to know if I was married, and the list goes on...all in a mere 15 minutes that I was in his presence)...Now, I'm sure Holly could have handled it...I was " dumbfounded " (heck...I just wanted some glasses!)... Guest guest
And when you absolutely destroy your child's liver or chelate a heavy metal into your child's brain without testing, Andy doesn't need to worry about malpractice and you will need to worry about child abuse charges from your local CPS. It has happened to others parents of ASD children. > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > I'm looking to you folks on this list who are in the New > England > > area > > > > for opinions. Guest guest
Maybe that's why Andy advises not to bother with challenge tests where some DAN doc's want you to give your kid 1500mg of DMSA at one time. You're also supposed to use milk thistle to help the liver. Liver tests are one of the things insurance will pay for. Thank you Mr Doom and Gloom. > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > I'm looking to you folks on this list who are in the New > > England > > > area > > > > > for opinions. Guest guest
Phone sex is highly over-rated. I got stuck in the darn ear piece. . ..and then there's cells phones -- well, forget it, no way. Computer sex is a little better, but you have to watch out for the fan. > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > I'm looking to you folks on this list who are in the New > > England > > > area > > > > > for opinions. Guest guest
Do Drs. Englander and Cutler each have malpractice insurance? Re: Great Plains Lab/ Dr. Englender in Mass.
