Dear Friends -

This over reaction to

the CAA (Combating Autism Bill) is premature and has the potential to throw the bill

away for good.

The good folks at

Safe Minds & National Autism Association are working on the bill and the

numerous edits. They are in DC negotiating their asses off.

Please

do not

react right now. DO NOT CALL

your senators or congressional representatives yet.

This process is hard core. It is changing by the

minute. There are some most excellent folks working on it with the thimerosal /

biomed / good research angle in a big way.

WE WILL CALL OUT THE HOUNDS! WE CAN KILL THE

BILL LATER IF IT SUCKS. IT DOES NOT SUCK RIGHT NOW.

It is so fricken early. Please take a chill pill

Lil (or wine or beer.) We will keep ya all posted. Things are gonna start

happening now......

Dude, I am listening to the radio in an air conditioned house drinking a cold drink.

Hardly busting a butt at all.

It is the NAA & Safe Mind folks rocking hard in DC calling me on their cell phones w/ updates!

Trust me - The edits have been scary. They have sucked beyond sucking (ok, so I am from California.)But the edit process is not yet done.

Bottom line for everyone - once the edits are done you can read the bill for your self.If you disagree - then release the hounds! Go balistic! Call the numbers of all your representatives!

We are just not there yet and calls right now can hurt us a lot more than help.

Again - just my opinion.

Tanks!

, ,

The people who are saying " trust us we're working on fixing this " are

the same people who helped get the vaccine language get wiped from the

bill in the first place by their unwillingness to take a stand against

that happening. There is no one who represents the political

interests of the community " on top " of things here except for A-CHAMP

and those supporting their stand. We are in serious danger of getting

seriously screwed by naieve friends operating in a political vacuum

who are out of touch with the community. Do not let your guard down.

Nonsense. This bill was planned a long time ago. The bill NEVER had thimerosal and vaccine research in it. Deirdre Imus said so. She intimated that Dodd is a liar. This just one more representation of government-sanctioned child abuse. Keeping child abuse quiet isn't cool. This bill is Daddy Frist's dirty little secret.

Call and tell them that the CAA is unacceptable to the autism community. Pissing them off for a change. That's cool.

It was in the health committee still this afternoon. It is not even supposed to be presented to the senate until the earliest Friday - maybe later.

Thats if it even gets accepted. My understanding is it is still being edited. All the Press releases issued on this board today talk about the bill in the health committee.

Can someone else comment?

,

The bill is pretty much final. It is only some fine tuning of technical

provisions that are being worked out now, and negotiation on two areas

that were omitted from the final draft and might be salvaged in a

weaker form in report language. These are important and the bill can be

improved, but that does not change the fact that fundamental provisions

at the core of the bill are pretty much fixed in stone.

The question is why were some provisions that are highly objectionable

to our community (those who care about biomedical interventions)

inserted AFTER the final draft had been presented?

As far as Kerbob goes, he was opposed to the bill well before the

latest provisions were inserted, and that is his right. Parents should

be concerned about this bill and are right to question it. The entire

bill is not now being edited, as you suggest. What is being done is an

attempt to salvage in a weaker form, provisions that were not included

in the bill, such as the advisory committee provision related to

community oversight. These provisions were in the consensus bill - but

the consensus coalition - at least a good part of it, decided to

support the bill despite the fact that critical provisions were

omitted.

I thus respectfully disagree with your implicit suggestion that final

" edits " are now being negotiated can resurrect the bill that was agreed

upon by the consensus group. I suggest that you may not be aware of the

entire story and that you are not in possession of all the facts. That

is not to take away from efforts being made to salvage some provisions.

But this effort is absolutely not related to final edits that can alter

the totality of the bill, as you suggest.

I have found Kerbob's dissenting voice refreshing as compared with the

cheerleading going on for a bill that is of debatable value to our

children. What we need now is sober critical thinking and not

cheerleading. This is not a football game or a World Cup match - it is

an attempt at achieving responsible legislation to address the needs of

our children.

And that is my opinion, which I respectfully offer to you.

Lenny and Sally are Right!!! I am greatly disappointed that the many

different organizations that all started out in this together did not STAY

in this together. It is very important to present a united front; we need

to focus on our vaccine injured children....isn't that what this is supposed

to be all about. No hidden agendas please! We are no better than the

lobbyist, drug companies, and sell-out congressional representatives if we

are not honest with each other and at least focus on the main prize at all

cost and that is our children! We are not working together to accomplish

that. Too many secrets are still being kept with in our own community.

Kerbob is correct that there was never a version of the CAA introduced

in the Senate that included a provison for research into vaccines. The

only such provision was in a draft agreed upon by a consensus of

organizations and presumably submitted to the HELP Committee. The

consensus agreed on a provision for research into vaccines, vaccine

components and vaccine preservatives. This provision never made it

into any bill and we were advised that if it was included the bill

would never pass. Thus the consensus bill was never a reality, and we

were advised not to fight for it. When we proposed a letter fighting

for the provision we were advised that the letter would KILL THE BILL.

There may be language that will shape the legislative history that

includes vaccine research, but it is relatively weak. Let's see what

the colloquy is on the floor of the Senate.

There are strong lobbying forces that are working against any such

language. I hear that this lobby includes PhRMA, BIO and the AAP.

Hi Sally,

That can't be correct. The press release (who put it out?) must have

meant it was " passed " in the HELP Committee. Under the circumstances,

however, being approved and reported to the Senate by the HELP

Committee is tantamount to being passed, because the plan is to get the

entire Senate to approve this bill by unanimous consent, without any

floor debate.

The idea is to make it a done deal. So, in substance, Sally, you are

right but only to a point. Still has to be voted on by the Senate.

Would be interesting to see a Senator stand up and raise some questions

about the bill, that that is not the plan that is being orchestrated.

Edits continue, yes, but by friends who have by now demonstrated that

they may not have enough experience in such editing and that has me

and others concerned. The vaccine research language is gone and is

not coming back by 11th hour editing. They will not be bringing this

Elvis back.

The friends we do have who DO have the political experience to see

things soundly as they truly are Reps. Weldon and Reps. Burton.

Neither of whom have signed on as co-sponsors to the CAA precisely

because it avoids the mercury and vaccine issues.

SafeMinds and NAA may sincerely work for the best legislation for our

kids. Unfortunately, it is already not good enough. One more billion

dollars in irrelevant research is one more billion dollars in

irrelevant research and another five years wasted our children do not

have. There is little in the CAA bill now that indicates the money

will be spent on anything more than politically safe research.

Because A-CHAMP believes our children have already been short-changed

by the removal of the vaccine research language, they have announced

their withdrawal of support for the measure. If this new predatory

language remains in that allows the CDC to kill biomedical treatment,

a bigger stink needs to be raised to protect the interests of our

children.

You obviously got very bad information. Even Frist, an original co-sponsor, issued a press release applauding HELP for seeing things his way on CAA.

You've gotta call Senators to tell them this bill is unacceptable.

We parents need more than an apology.

RE: CAA Bill

Well???? We have them right where we want them now. The true

instrument of devisiveness was the actual CAA bill. We should all be

grateful that certain groups have crossed the line in the sand that

this bill itself drew.

Cold-hearted orb that rules the night

Removes the colors from our sight

Red is grey and yellow white

But we decide which is right

And which is an illusion

The true gulf betwixt us parents is created the day the case worker

walks into your house, examines your child for ten minutes, returns

to the office, and files the needs for services report. This triage

report determines which children are worthy of the many benefits and

services and which children will live a life full of prejudice,

bigotry, and denial.

The CAA and those that have supported it simply have confirmed once

again that for the rest of us our children are mere stepping stones

for them to achieve whatever they are attempting to achieve.

I think I've been very kind in restraining myself from repeating many

whispering voices that have told me how unfair parents with " Autism

Lite " children really are. Your children receive all the funding,

therapies, and other educational services mainly as a result of the

report filed some time after the initial visit from the " Autism Turk " .

It is clearly evident in the whimsical colloquy of the CAA bill that

the Senate expressed itself quite well that CDC is not to conduct

future epidemiologic research concerning what was an epidemic of

autism.

The reason is simple. The real and pragmatic fear that any future

numerical study of autism will defind the drop in rates as the result

of thimerosal removal from infant and toddler vaccines. The Senate

made it clear that CDC is not to count autism any more. This is

beyond troubling and should rightly be considered as criminal

conspiracy.

So thanks to the U.S. Senate, CDC has had a huge burden of weight

taken off their shoulders. The dozen or so CDC media scholars aren't

stupid people. In 2004, when they reached a point of not being able

to conceal our children they presented an autism A.L.E.R.T. flier,

which confessed that autism rates were, indeed, at epidemic levels.

Using two year old data, this past spring CDC disclosed finally and

at the same time they revealed where the 2004 A.L.E.R.T. 1 in 166

number came from.

So what's the going rate today? Ahhhhhh, we can't tell you. It's

against the law for CDC to do epidemiological research now.

To figure out where all of the CDC " director " stuff in CAA came from

go back to the American Enterprise Institute " small potatoes " talk.

Before something is included in a bill for the public it requires

public discussion. The AEI Offit theatrical presentation served the

sole purpose of shedding sunlight on " public needs " . Frist was

instrumental in making sure this was not closed doors by airing it

live on Good Friday on C-SPAN when literally noone would be watching.

Most everyone laughed it off, but it has clearly a matter of he who

has the last laugh....

Kerbob:

I predicted months ago that this CAA bill would show everyone's true colors and draw the lines between the different orgs.

I hate to say I was right, but I was right.

Hopefully now the organizations who are truly fighting for mercury injured children (NOT autism) will get the parent support of mercury injured children so that we can begin to give this movement a good kick forward. MAM has and will never fight for autism, but for children injured by mercury.
