We all need to be careful that we are absolutely sure that what we say is factual in order to maintain our credibility. Although the announcement about thimerosal occurred in 1999, and the thimerosal free Hep B was remarkably already available from Merck, the other vaccines needed years to reformulate and take the thimerosal out. No one said that the thimerosal was out in 2000. I don't believe that the actual lot numbers where the thimerosal came out were ever communicated to the general public. It was phased out over several years after the announcement.

HAPI did do their independent testing fairly recently, (2004?) which showed that the vaccines they tested had thimerosal in them. We would have to review their findings to ensure that these vaccines were not manufactured in 2001 for example and were just sitting on the shelf, these vaccines have a long shelf life.

Their is plenty of outrage here, believe me, I have my moments. But we need to be certain that our advocacy faces are perceived as credible and professional, not emotional nutjobs. This morning on Imus, Sen Santorum labeled us as "difficult". We must be careful not to give them anything worse to call us.

To be fair to Santorum, he did try to pass the autism act and help the families with autistic children.

From his perspective, he split the baby, which was an appropriate thing for him to do. He was trying to do right by us. It wasn't all manipulation. He knows this issue has to be addressed.

For us, it wasn't enough because of the damage we have suffered. Most likely, it will never be enough.

But Santorum should be appropriately congratulated for having moved the ball forward and getting unanimous consent on this issue.

And Deirdre should be congratulated for making sure the game does not end here.

We can be factual and we can be difficult at the same time. I'd like to be labeled difficult and more difficult and a whole lot of other labels that i couldn't care less about. I don't think credible is even an issue at this point. We are credible-they are the ones that aren't credible-the difference is that they have the political power and the money . Where is your outrage?????? Maurineelevatordance <elevatordance@...> wrote: We all need to be careful that

The fact that you are labeled "difficult" is perhaps the best name you can hopefully engender from Santorum.

Because it means you're not easy- as this negotiation moves along.

We are just about finished with phase I.

To be honest about Santorum, He's a lying weasel jerk hopefully headed directly to his excessively high paying job where he will be prominently displayed as yet another pharma-politico puppet on the drug company trophy shelf. He's known as one of the "preservative" republicans for a reason.

His record of child neglect and bias on the mercury matters speaks for itself. Number three is full of number two (bovine).

I'm not arguing.

I'm simply providing observations within the context of the longer negotiation.

Santorum will be a lobbyist come January.

Other bills to come as the Republicans are picked off.

Momentum in our favor.

This is not a time to be timid. We need only rely on the documentary

evidence - it says it all. The facts are out there - and we need to

keep reminding everyone of the facts. We are " difficult " because the

facts backing up are arguments are difficult, or impossible, to answer.

Sen. Santorum's describing parents as " difficult " is a great compliment

and a badge of honor that I would wear proudly.

May we continue to be " difficult. "

Here are some of the documented facts about removal of thimerosal from

vaccines - a tale of delay, deceit and denial:

http://www.a-champ.org/misledaboutthimerosal.html

From a Merck 1999 press release:

" Now, Merck's infant vaccine line -- including its combination vaccine

against hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type b (COMVAX®) -- is

free of all preservatives. "

To see the Merck press release, the FDA letter to Weldon showing that

vaccines were manufactured with thimerosal long after the 1999 PHS/AAP

announcement, the LA Times article by Myron Levin on the subject,

" Merck Lied, Some Say " , as well as the 1999 PHS/AAP anncouncement go to

this url for links to pdf files. More to be posted along with other

information.

The FDA letter to Dr. Weldon clearly shows that thimerosal vaccines

were still on the market for infants in 2001 and 2002.

The 1999 Merck announcement states that Merck's Hep B vaccine line for

infants will be Hg-free going forward. However, page 3 of the FDA

letter reveals that they were still selling and shipping Hg Hep B in

2000 and 2001, and the expiration date was not until 2002.

Was Merck giving false information to parents?

Many of us are aware of this but it serves us well to be reminded and

remind others.

In reading what Bob Krakow just posted, Merck was

still shipping and manufacturing Hg

HepB in 2000 and 2001, contrary to what they stated publicly in 1999. Which

means

theoretically it could still be on the shelves until the end of this year.

Does anybody know conclusively who's checking the vials for Hg content right now?

In California, the ban on thimerosal-containing vaccines didn't take effect until this past month. That means there is a high probability that thimerosal-containing vaccines were in full use right up to the ban. Also, what about the practices that "cut" the adult vials, which are TCVs, down to infant and toddler doses?

If you're merely "difficult", you're not trying hard enough.

Got to raise that decibel level.

Some of the information being posted on the list was incorrect. I wanted to remind everyone that it is important to be factual. Yes, it is okay to be difficult, as long as you remain credible. It is too easy to be emotional and lose credibility.
