Amendment: The authorization in the bill instead of $200 million per

year for 5 years is $150 million per year for 5 years

Bill about to be passed by unanimous consent.

What is the colloquy? and the Report language?

He mentioned that they cut the research funding

from $250 million to $100 million. Did I catch that right? They changed

stuff at the last second. It’s over btw. It’s passed

the senate.

Changed the " authorization " for funding from $200 million per year to

$150 million per year for the 5 years.

Keep in mind the bill is not automatically funded. Remember No Child

Left Behind. Has never been fully funded.

I may have gotten this wrong. The increase has been reduced, will not

go up as fast as in the bill passed by HELP committee. said it

will go up from $100million by $10 million per year capping at

$150million instead of $20million yearly increase capping at

$200million.

Bob- That's what Santorum said. The $50 million trim is from the NIH

portion of the bill, which is unfortunate. I believe the entire bill

pre-amendment was 950M, so it's now 900M over 5 years if I understand

correctly.

It will be interesting to see the Report and Colloquy.

Think about the fact that noone wanted to discuss this issue, no one wanted to raise any issues and I understand they did a voice vote. They are scared sh__less of this issue.

What to do- JAM IT DOWN THEIR THROATS!!!!

Now, think of a confrontational political strategy involving these assholes and bullhorns.

Contemporaneous with lambasting these knuckleheads you can inform the public that they poisoned 40 million children with thimerosal containing vaccines. As they speak.

Holly,

Send your text message to the ASA, maybe they'll place it in their

Latest News section on their website.

Glad I missed the whole thing and watched Scarface on AMC instead.

" Better than nothing " that's the phrase I've heard over and over

again where autism services and funding and absolutley everything is

concerned.

We should have t-shirts made up.

Lenny,

I have been on the Schafer list since you started it years ago when my son was diagnosed with autism in 1999. My son is now 10 so I have relied on your list for great information for a long time.

I am also a Registered Nurse as well as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and have been following the Combating Autism Act for over a year and a half. I was present when Senators Santorum and Dodd announced the CAA in Washington D.C. in April 2005. As a BCBA, I currently work with hundreds of children with autism so I know both as a parent as well as a professional how much help is needed for all our kids. While the CAA is not perfect, dedicating 900 + million to autism would certainly be an excellent start!

I think your last two editorials on the CAA have been unfair and unhelpful. I know for a fact that Senator Santorum fully supports the CAA and he and his staff have spent countless hours trying to get this to pass both in the Senate as well as in the House. Autism is a tough disease/disorder for politicians to get involved with in general. There are so many fragmented groups within the community that it is impossible to please everyone.

I think Rick Santorum went out on a limb on CNN the other day stating that there are "suspicions" within the autism community and research is desperately needed on "environmental causes." I personally don't know what more you expect from him. As you know, Senator Santorum is in difficult race in PA. I'm sure he doesn't have time for the CAA but he is making time!

If CAA doesn't pass in the House, I feel it is partially your fault for writing editorials that do not give thanks to Senators Santorum and Dodd....and all the others who have supported it. If anything, these comments from you slamming the politicians that are trying to help will send one clear message to all politicians....stay away from Autism legislation....

Let's be smart about this Lenny....we need to support those who are trying to help us. We cannot afford to alienate anyone at this point who might be able to help us crack the door open so we can find a cause and cure for autism!

Thanks for listening!

Hello ,

I intend to publish your letter.

My comments on the matter came after the bill was already dead in the House. It did not cause the failure, it only points it out after the fact. Santorum dropped the ball getting the CAA through the house. My question still stands, why? This is not just some little ducky you forget to line up with your Republican colleagues who control congress. Barton would not have politicized rare consensus legislation that unanimously passed the Senate without the approval of the Republican leadership. I can only deduce the CAA was never intended to succeed.

I hope the bill falls flat on it's face and does not pass. It's a

iece of s..t written on toilet paper!

Wow Lenny - the power you have! You alone have determined whether or

not a 9.5 million (remember when it said it was 1 billion) bill

passes or not. I bow to you!!!

NAA sent out a memo on 11/21 that's the last we've heard

(publically) from any of the groups you have mentioned.

Not much discussion of what is now in the CAA here. Sorry, not much

help, but I'm as interested as you are about what is really going to

be in the CAA and where those groups stand.

Welcome back Holly :)

Well, from the piece in the SAR, the

ever-disappointing ASA is still supporting it. not a surprise but still

sickening.
