Guest guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Whenever I get frustrated by what I would consider an overly intense post by Kerbob, I always remember the video clip that he made over a year ago. Here's the link: www.peakwriting.com/mercury/squareparttwo.wmv He's usually good in my book again after I view the clip. It is interesting to go back and look at the piece. We are chipping away... slowly but surely we are making progress. Sue M. > > What exactly have you done in your fight? Guest guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Thanks for sending this. This is exactly what I wanted to know - I'm not out to slam Kerbob, as I almost always agree with him 100%! I just think that with his intelligence, his passion and his ability to articulate himself, maybe joining or working on his own in an organization. Guest guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 No, that's OK. The process isn't exactly water-tight I suppose, but it's only on-line for demo purposes so that the appropriate people involved in securing permission could easily see it. I've learned that when you make these things there's a thing called track clearance. It involves getting requests granted from the rights-holders. How do you end up with the URL? Guest guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 KerBob: Why aren't you answering my question? Do you not belong or work for any autism org, or is that you don't want anyone to know? I've seen your posts all over the internet, but I just want to know what you have done to make a difference even in your hometown community? You seem to have a lot to say about HOW autism orgs work, I thought that maybe you would be starting your own by now due to your dislike of how they are run. > > > > > > > > What exactly have you done in your fight? Guest guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 I serve a entire community of seven thousand people which doesn't allow me much social time nor does it make me a desirable person to socialize with. I'm not one of those types of parents with a foot in the door waiting for a baby-sitter to show up so nights are typically spent being a dad to my autistic son. He needs a lot of my time. We work on flash cards or during the school year we work on whatever things are sent home in his little knap-sack. Weekends are spent chelating. This requires I drag my lazy tail out of bed every three hours during the night over the course of three days straight to provide my son with his mercury chelator oral dosage. Honestly Ker does most of this, but I'm up when the timer goes off just to make sure things go down the pipe OK. This time of the year here in Florida, known for hot and bothered temperatures and humidity, I mow the lawn on blazing hot summer days, do the weed-eating, edge the sidewalk, and blow off the debris with a leaf blower. Most of the time the yard looks nice, but if it's too hot or I've spent too much time in the sun at work for one day already I skip it. I've worked very hard with my own hands mostly to fix things that break and maintain a pretty nice home. I just got finished cleaning and treating our vinyl pool to keep it as safe as I can for my son. He's climbing in right now. Gone swimmin! Re: To Kerbob KerBob:Why aren't you answering my question? Guest guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Every board has to have the resident gadfly - its Kerbob the hours and hours of him posting on this board - he could spend that time in a lot of more productive ways on the autism front ( several which you mention) - we all have only so many hours in the day Pete Re: To Kerbob KerBob:Why aren't you answering my question? Guest guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Well it sounds like you are very busy, as are most of us with autistic kids. Again, I was not criticizing you, I just thought that with your intelligence and articulation you could really help make a difference. Your life sounds very much like mine. I work full-time at home as a medical transcriptionist, but my hours are opposite of when my son is awake. I did homeschool him up to this year (7th grade), but in Sept. he goes for 4 hours and that will be a huge help with me getting my work done, as I work on a production basis with minimum requirements. I also run the ASA chapter in Central NY and now just proudly became the 22nd congressional district rep for A-Champ! So volunteering time is about 15 hours a week max. Not having a huge pile of money, I take care of all the repairs around the house and yard, try to cook dinner once in a while. But mainly my days are filled with playing with the kids. I have an 11 year old daughter I adopted from Ukraine last year. Yes, I even brought Jack with me and my husband. He did very well over there and was part of picking out a new sister. She's been a lot of work, but has grown in huge ways over the past year. Thanks for answering my question - you intrigued me and I knew there was more to you than what others were saying. You are a guy who tells you right where a bear shits in the buckwheat and I love that! Sally > > > > > > > > > > What exactly have you done in your fight? Guest guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 To those critical of Kerbob, Let me stick up for Bloch. He provides a valuable perspective on important issues, even if some of us do not agree with him, in varying degrees, all the time. He may be strident, but his candor is sometimes refreshing. Anyone who spends time reading or posting messages to this list spends some time at it, and that may or may not be valuable to some of you. You can skip 's posts if you want - but judgments about how he spends his time are inappropriate. The reason for this list is to share ideas and views. often takes a dissenting view, and that is valuable. It is not necessary for everyone to belong to an organization - some of us have belonged to too many. Keeping outside the organizations that many members of this list belong to can allow someone like to have a perspective that is different than those of us who have allegiance to or are influenced by an organization. So call it resident gadfly or however you want to characterize it. I am sure that spends as much time as productively as he can - he detailed what he does with his time even though none of us need to justify our existence - I for one welcome his comments even if I don't always agree with the tone or content. Actually, the content, with some exceptions, is pretty helpful - and he is resolute in his convictions, an admirable quality. Sure, he may criticize some groups or people pretty severely, or be too blunt, but those people and groups are very capable of defending themselves, as we have seen. Sure he could be a little more civil, but that doesn't mean he is wasting his time by posting messages. How any individuals spends their free time is up to them. And the " Say it Ain't So Joe " video from more than a year ago is a classic - a unique contribution to the culture of this list. Guest guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 None of us knows it all. We all have different takes on any given issue, construed from our subjective views thereof. I agree, personal attacks are silly and mean. Disagree with the substance and meat of any post til the cows come home, but going after anyone personally is meanspirited and tawdry. The scourge of Autism deracinates every family from the hopes and drweams they prospectively wished for when they brought their bunle of joy home from the hospital nursery. It's plain and simple.........we must love and support eachother. Take care n" J. Krakow" <rkrakow@...> wrote: To those critical of Kerbob,Let me stick up for Bloch.
