Tazewell County State's Attorney Umholtz (UHM'-hohlts) says he won't seek the death penalty against a central Illinois mother charged in the death of her three-year-old daughter.Umholtz made the announcement today in Pekin as part of a campaign press conference. Umholtz is running as the Republican candidate for Illinois attorney general against incumbent Madigan.He says McCarron's lack of a criminal record is one of the reasons he won't seek the death penalty.McCarron was charged yesterday with two counts of first-degree murder in Saturday's death of her daughter, .Authorities allege that McCarron -- of Morton -- placed a plastic bag over the girl's head and suffocated her.The girl, who had a history of autism, recently returned to Morton after attending a school in North Carolina.
