Guest guest
I saw today. She looked great and she's talking! She was up in her chair since about 11:30 a.m. and decided to lie down when I was leaving at about 3:30. She got to go outside earlier to have a little visit with her dog Toby who proved to be an incredibly excited lick-monster. has been enjoying eating a soft diet, though, she's eager to eat something more substantial. She confessed that she's been craving junk food and so has enjoyed fixings from Taco Bell and Mc's, along with healthier fare. They said she's not yet allowed to eat rice (too easy to choke on) so I didn't bring her sushi yet, but instead provided her with chocolate in numerous forms. She loves Sharffenberger! Tomorrow they will put her on different type of positive pressure machine via her trach (I don't know details) that is part of weaning her off of the ventilator and oxygen. They are communicating with her directly more frequently, but her parents are still in control more than she wants. She understandably has been thinking a lot about how to manage her disability in order to prevent future power struggles regarding her health care. The doctors want her to progress very slowly, but she's pushing forward hard every chance she gets. You'll all be proud to know that the nurses regularly document that she is " non-compliant. " I wonder how many of them would put up with two painful heparin injections for EVERYONE in ICU each day even though are not a normal part of the normal regimen just because a lawyer says it's important to protect the hospital from liability. I watched her argue with her mom about logistics and she held her ground well. Yay, ! She has irons in the fire on a few places to live near her job in Oakland and anxious to get that part of her life back on track. She get's low in the evening, but with visitors and improvements in her health her days are feeling more positive. Her friend Lori's family just got her a little internet-only notebook that will help her connect with the world more, so hopefully soon she will be posting her own updates any day now. More soon.
