Guest guest
Fran: I think the ARC would be a good place to start. I heard about the firm in Dallas from our local support group and the DS clinic at children's hospital. You might try something similar in your area. Or, if you already have a family attorney (or know someone who does), ask them for a referral to an attorney who specializes in estate planning and special needs trusts. Like I said before, you don't want a trial lawyer trying to do this kind of work! If you like, I'll look up the name & number of the company here in Dallas. Maybe they have contacts all around the country or maybe they can even do it long distance for you. Their costs were very very reasonable (around $300 vs. the $900 we spent at a private attorney). Let me know. Guest guest
Hi Folks, After being in the midst of ambiguity and frustration with 's situation, I decided to update my Durable Medical Power of Attorney. This has also prompted me to deal with the property I own so my family doesn't have to give everything up to probate attorneys when I die. In California a Will doesn't help; we must have a Living Trust. I am also the beneficiary of an insurance policy and need to set up a Special Needs Trust. I generally do this sort of thing without lawyers and use a notary instead in order to keep things affordable. I just just bought the following books from NoLo Press: - Special Needs Trusts (eBook for download) - Make Your Own Living Trust (eBook for download) - Medical Directives & Powers of Attorney for California (eBook for download) NoLo has a lot of free articles on-line for those of you looking for more information.
