Guest guest
Congrats Judith! We can't wait to read it. We know you'll represent well. Thanks My new job I'm trying to be cool about this, but I am so very excited to be writing a new blog for Parents.com. To read it, go to the following link and then scroll down to Autismville: http://www.parents. com/parents/ category. jsp?Submit= View%20all% 20Blogs & catego ryid=/templatedata/ parents/category /data/1177006606 652.xml I'll be blogging as the mom of a child with autism 3 times a week or so, so please, check back often. On an even more exciting note to me personally, I will be donating 100% of my salary to a parent training scholarship program at DFW Center for Autism. (The week long program is based on the PRT method created by Dr. Lynn Koegel.) If this program is something that you have considered in the past, but the cost has been prohibitive, I encourage you to get on the waiting list for the scholarship. You can do so by contacting the DFW Center for Autism at .Just tell the operator you want to discuss the week long parent training program. Guest guest
So, today I officially accepted a job at a new company called Abilicorp. See: http://www.abilicorp.com/ This will be my first regular job in the private sector aside from a few consulting gigs. I've known the CEO casually for about 20 years; I know his wife better. Some of you may know of her; Sherer son, the author of " The Question of : A Disabled Mother's Journey Through Adoption, Family, and Life " and the story 'American Bandstand,' from the book " Prejudice: Stories About Hate, Ignorance, Revelation, and Transformation. " and Neil are big thinkers about disability and I love that Neil knows how to push the envelope with regard to employment and disability. So far, for a capitalist and a socialist, we see eye-to-eye pretty well. I will initially work 25% time at the office, which is a 15 minute walk from our house. Next Monday we will meet to negotiate my salary, schedule, project goals, and even job title, as everything is brand new and no one has ever done what we're trying to do in the private sector. There's big venture capital behind the project, and Neil has the freedom to try what he believes. He has asked me to design the Benefits Counseling portion of Employee Support Services. I have the freedom to only commit one step at a time to the project so I can see how well my health holds up; my commitment for now is only to do the design. We'll decide about next steps as we approach them. I'm really excited! Thanks for letting me share! Alana
