Guest guest
Hi , Sure I recognize you. I'll put some feelers our about the SF, Berkeley, and Oakland punk scene. We mostly have warehouse shows in the East Bay, but do check out 924 Gilman. It's THE punk club in Berkeley. When will you be here? What type of transportation will you have? Alana > > Hi Alana! > > You probably don't recognize me due to the fact that I'm more of a quiet lurker than active discussion participant - nonetheless I've learned a lot from everyone's posts and definitely consider this group a great resource! The reason I am writing is I am planning a trip to San Francisco this summer and was wondering if you had any advice on where to go and what to see in the area. I've done all the " accessible san fransisco " searches and have read up on all of the typical tourist attractions, but I'm more interested in the less well-known. My friend who I will be traveling with is big into the old school punk scene and would ideally like to find some cool places to hang out and listen to local bands. He is also very interested in staying in Berkley for a day or 2 as well. We would love to check out any accessible trails and/or parks in the area, since I've heard how beautiful the scenery is. I am from Wisconsin and have always wanted to visit Northern California, but unfortunately I know nothing about the area or how accessible different places are. Any suggestions of somewhere fun to go that wouldn't be listed on some tourism site (besides of course anything accessible and having to do with the outdoors) would be much appreciated! Thanks! > > O. >
Guest guest
Thanks for the reply! Sorry about the delayed response, I just got home from the hospital after a short bout with a stomach bug. I'm not sure about the exact dates yet, but we are definitely shooting for this summer. Is there a certain time you would suggest visiting over others? Any must-see events? I just wanted to get a jump start on the planning process since this is my first time planning a vacation of any sort without parental involvement We will be driving my van so we can check out some sites on the way (another thing I need to start researching). I already checked out Gilman and it's exactly what we are looking for! Thanks again so much for your help so far! > > > > Hi Alana! > > > > You probably don't recognize me due to the fact that I'm more of a quiet lurker than active discussion participant - nonetheless I've learned a lot from everyone's posts and definitely consider this group a great resource! Guest guest
Hi , Here are the responses I go from my query: Geoff said, " I think hazmat warehouse is accessible, thee parkside in sf, el rio in sf, uptown in oakland, stork club in oakland...there are many venues that are flat/ground level that should be relatively accessible... Trevor Benson said, " my bus has a ramp. house shows are trickier. everyone we have had over had to be carried five steps. " If you friend on Facebook you can get more information about his bus shows. He bought a full-sized transit bus and hosts local bands in all kinds of places; parking lots, alleyways, under freeway overpasses, at landfills... De said, " Funny response: Gilman is totally accessible except the bathroom, they aren't accessible to anyone that has to sit down. EW!! Also, my friend Logan suggested contacting these guys to ask about the accessibility of warehouse shows: http://www.rumrebellion.net/pyratepunx.shtml " Jane said, " I'll tell to email you. He's like the wheelchair accessible encyclopedia. " said, " Hazmat, Gilman, Stork (I think there may be a small step in front- does that ring a bell anyone?). Bottom of the Hill, Van Kleef's, Ashkenaz, Freight & Salvage, all of the larger venues (Fillmore, Warfield, Slim's, Great American). Very UN-accessible is Cafe Du Nord & most house shows, unfortunately. I have your ramp if you need it for a night out!...P.S.- I don't think anyone you care about should sit on a Gilman toilet after the doors open, regardless of accessibility! " Chiyo said, " Hi Alana, I would recommend Slim's, Great American Music Hall, DNA Lounge, Bottom of the Hill, and The Uptown. They all might be more pricey at the door and bar, but have roomier restroom stalls and higher stages so the bands might be easier to see. " Alana said, " Thanks, everyone! I will forward all your information to . , I will have her friend you on Facebook about bus shows. You all rock, but I already knew that. " Oh, and Qilo suggested calling to hear a recording about local shows at 510-BAD-SCUM. There's no accessibility information, but if something sounds interesting you can ask the contact person or ask me. Have fun! Alana
