His involvement with the Swine Flu fiasco mirrors his involvement with the present bird flu fiasco as well.

It is?

Re: Re: Autism every day. Bob is wrong ! () Hildebrand is right!

That may be true in many cases, but it just underscores my point that it MUST change immediately. and we'll all collapse under its onerous burden if we continue exhibiting the typical human nature trait which you cite.

Take care

So far, they have celebs involved who have not previously, to my

knowledge, been involved in autism issues. They are working hard to

change it.

As to those who've been in the struggle longer, it takes time and

learning the history before on realizes how far we've come. I attended

an inclusion seminar here in Knoxville and a the professor stated in

the early 1980's she got her first job. It was to teach a 16 yr old

and 17 yr old in a psychiatric hospital -- they'd never had a teacher

before in their lives. She then said that yes, we do have a long way

to go, but look how far we've come in only 20 years. If I had not

attended that specific seminar, I would to this day not be aware of

conditions just 20 yrs prior.

I do lots of stuff in my community. Honestly, I hope no one ever

thanks me or recognizes me. I do what I do as tribute to those before

me and, more importantly, in hopes that future parents will live in

ignorant bliss of not having to wage the battles I have. That

ignorance will leave my name unknown, but for the sake of the families

not suffering, I gladly pick an anonymous life of fighting for the

future.

What are you kidding me ? "where was Bob before his grandson was hit with autism whammy - why wasn’t he soliciting and campaigning vigoursly as he is now"

answer - he joined the rest of us who had a loved one affected with autism and got involved. He could have easily not stopped up to the plate - quietly spent whatever it took to help his grandson - instead, they stepped up to the plate BIG TIME - kudos to them

This is a guy who has significant day to day work pressures/comittments in a very demanding job. He is spending a lot of personal time and effort to move the needle. God Bless the s

To make a comment like that is so sad - talking about pity - that’s the word that comes to my mind

I had a cousin develop autism in 1983. He is a distant cousin and his

immediate family lives 250 miles from me. No one ever shared any info

about him. But, let's face it, in 1984 disabilities were still

relatively shameful, esp this mysterious one called autism. I always

wondered about it, and my grandmother, his grandmother's sister, would

cry on the phone telling me how worried she was for their family.

Where I live now there is a 22 yr old on the street behind me with

autism and a 30+ yr old girl on the street in front of me with autism.

There were sprinklings.

When I had my first child a dear friend was very anti-vaccine. I

remember being at the ped, getting shots for my first one, laughing

with the ped about how crazy people like that were.

Saying genes has something to do with this is to say that genes were responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs.

We have an obligation to this society, as well as to ourselves, to make this story as well-known as anything else in our culture.

And may god help anyone who gets in the way.

Except in swine flu, I don't know that he had a direct financial internest (stock, royalties) in ginning up that pandemic.

I could be wrong.

My son is 25 and has regained some function in his hands--now has a pincer

grasp and can manipulate eating utensils much more skillfully--but that has

included lots of therapy.

Wow Kerbob. Thanks for sharing that story.

> In the grocery store days - somewhere around 1995 - there was one

autistic young man I'd say around eighteen years old who came

shopping with his mom a lot. He used to play a game with me where

out of the corner of my eye I'd catch him spying on me from the end

of the aisle. When I'd turn and glance he'd shoot off to another

aisle. After a minute or so his head would poke out from around the

endcap at the opposite end of the aisle. He was a bashful one. He

was always hefty, very cheerful looking, but always quiet. After a

couple of greetings I figured out that he didn't talk, but I always

gave him a wink and said hey to him when he was within earshot. He

seemed to say a lot with his eyes.

>

> In sixteen years, from 1983 to 1999 he was the only person I'd

consider to be ranged as ASD, and for most of the time our customer

counts were around fourteen thousand sales a week.

>

> After I retired from the grocery store and got a new job I'd see

the young man on the street corner by his house. I guess he enjoyed

watching the traffic go by. He stood there watching cars and doing

his fingers.

>

> Just a year or so before I retired our store hired a young special

needs kid through a cooperative project with the state. With what I

know now he was autistic, but severely doped up. His assister just

called him slow. I asked her if there was anything special I should

know and she rolled her eyes, said no and walked away. Most of us

noticed that he did a good job bagging groceries and fitting in

pretty well, but his nerves would frazzle during the shift. Some of

the cashiers and baggers expressed how strange this was, but nobody

really reacted unkindly. For example, one time I passed by the front

end and one of the girls snagged me because the boy was off in a

corner on an empty register talking to himself. His assister had

bailed out after a few days of monitoring him and he was on his own.

>

> After delicately approaching him and called his name a couple of

times I noticed that he was quietly echoing me. I suppose he

realized I was there. I asked if he was feeling OK and said that he

looked like he was getting tired out. I asked him if he would like

to take a break and sit for a while, and he asked to go home. I let

the store manager know what was going on. I wasn't sure if I needed

to call his parents or he was able to, but I do remember being

thanked by his mom.

>

> The point is autism from my perspective was very rare. I spent

sixteen years in a very public place. Day in and day out serving a

community of tens of thousands of people. I saw lots of eyes, faces,

mannerisms, habits, etc. When you see enough people you get to a

point where you do pick up on things. Autism just wasn't there.

>

> In 2003, right about six months after our son was diagnosed as

severely autistic, Kerry and her mom were standing in the check out

line of another store. Her mom was unloading her groceries onto the

turntable. The cashier was a gal who was in the process of telling

Kerry she had a daughter on the spectrum. Just then a woman behind

Kerry in another check out line called her name. Kerry turned around

to see it was a new friend that she had met at a ASD group. She had

a son with autism. It struck her because she had just spoken to a

gal in the bakery who had a sister with an autistic child.

>

> One of Kerry's dearest friends had a birthday pool party for her

ASD daughter and invited our boy. I sat some and stood some watching

the kids, and keeping an eye on them. (long ago, I got the life-

saving merit badge at Scout camp) There they all were, probably

twelve or fifteen ASD boys and girls in and out of what I thought to

sarcastically call the " gene " pool. It was really interesting to

observe them all. As I looked at them, I thought there is just no

way on earth that genes have anything to do with this.

No actually I'm not kidding................I'm looking at the BIG BIG BIG picture........you see we have a monstrous calamity on our pltes....the whole @#$%^%$##@ human race on this planet.........yes sir we do.this Autism thing is huge. It crosses every group, spectrum, creed, colour, you name the caregory....and it's pernicious paws are there......... We know despite the critics denial, that, the one factor that seems to be rearing it's internecine head is some connectiion to vaccines..because wherever they goes it (autism) seems to go in a similar pattern of onslaught. So that being said, why are all the powerful big boys ONLY being REACTIVE??? instead of being PROACTIVE.? this is my point. I don't for one second doubt thar Bob is a caring loving gradfather and parent. I don't doubt for onee second that his heart is now in the right place........... but I'll tell you

this..guarranteed at this present exponential rate of increase...........it won't take ;long before the next BIG CEO or corporate magnates grandkid is slayed by the autism dragon.....then what another new group with different ideas agendas etc.............. trying to re-invent the same @#$%$#@ wheel........... i like you want to help everyone...As I said in another thread...the "big guys" are the folks responsible for creating this mess. They have flippantly used their power to maintain an internecine status quo while creating systems which have hurt and continue to hurt the little guys The time is NOW for Bob et al to be bashing down every corporate heads door and adjuring, cajoling exhorting galvanizing ALL of them to do likewise with every contact they have to arrest the tragic demon that is ten pin bowling our kids at the rate of TWO EVERY HOUR.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can't afford to have reactionaries, we need proaction now........... Worse still, families are struggling and buckling under this onerous burden....... Savings have been wiped out, constant robbing of to pay is the axiom of many of their existance...they are not living decent lives.they're merely struggling to get through each and every arduous day only to endure repetition the next day and the next day and the next day................ And no sir none of these "big guys" has the RIGHT to choose to do nothing..........Yheir decisions and conduct have created, [ut us in this mess, they have the moral obligation to reverse their avaricious paradigms....... I will make no apologies for calling them to what should be their main vocation. I re-iterate.proaction now not

reaction...........co-operation and activly showing gratitude to all those whose endeavours and sacrifices have paved the way for the roads of knowledge and treatment for the Bob s of to-day to start at the 50m line in the 100m race that all those before them had to start at. We need programs that actually get assistance into the hands of all those who struggle to make ends meet because of the shackles of autism......... This is my only focus.to help those struggling........Again i don't doubt that 's heart is in the right place now, but it should have been there before. If it was there is a strong liklihood that his grandson might have avoided his autism..........but the others who aren't paying heed, are rolloing the dice. And they CAN stop or prevent continuous occurrences I wish you well, take care n P.S. I don't want pity, I want common

sense to prevail.........! Bradley <pete@...> wrote: What are you kidding me ?
