Guest guest
A story from chair fitting hell... My (lost count...5th?) chair fitting today... so NOT thrilled. The concept was to take me from a very basic seating system (not special molded, but fit to my size and with tilt/recline) and get me more " upright " (seemingly great idea we all concluded) as I lean forward and to left with no real support (but can move body freely to reach, shift weight, etc) and no head support (long standing issue, give up mobility and streamlined chair for support)... we all thought upright would improve breathing, swallowing, pressure, and the ortho doc was saying the bones in neck were getting fluid around them and needed to be supported more to avoid issues later... ok, i was ready, after many hours deciding and trying demo stuff... so far... wrong...FAIL! the OT noticed today - this super " SPECIAL " molded back (its not comfy and just holds me in place) and total new position is making breathing seemingly harder .... my body is not adapted or its constricting something (possibly that im not leaning on diaphram at all...we cant tell)... not to meantion the contraptions of neck support and head rest theyve rigged just have all this metal bulk that they say " only a machine shop " could adapt/cut off... and is beyond difficult for transfers (you remove neck support and plan on adding 10 min to each transfer to adjust it just right, and dont bother if theyre not trained!)... UHHHH! the cusion is great, its higher on one side to lessen pressure in lean, BUT to bulk it up to do that... it added about 3 inches of height. i cannot reach simple table, desk, anything i sit so high! the tray option? I cant reach over to grab things in my house without a pca at my side 24/7 I want to scream and cry its just such a mess on a great new chair body i wanna ride in and need! my body naturally curves and in over correcting nature which makes it appear more comfortable...i think its been made worse. this is a huge vendor (rehab spec, now called atg) and the contraptions on my new chair from about 4 different companies have been put together like the stone age... IVE GOT TO TAKE PICS, ALL BAD! 4.5 hour fitting today... pointless! uhhh...I should have stuck with my old system with simple additions .... in the very least sharp metal rods and pieces shouldnt be sticking out! this joins in with worst chair fittings, all with this new chair have been awful... current chair on last leg, major $ to repair on my wallet so its gotta be usable kinda soon... when I said " umm, I'm not sure my pulmo doc is gonna love this... what if this never works? " ... well, a pin could drop... as theyd start all over. lame day
