I was

watching As The World Turns Today on CBS and there was a scene where a

mother (jennifer) takes her son (johnny) to the hospital for his

vaccinations. ny is about 4-6 months old. He was a premie (actually

born at like 5-6 months and was very sick at first). was concerned

because after his last vaccination, he had a fevor and a rash. Jenn tells

the doctor that she wants to wait.

Lucy, who is a resident and ny's half sister and Jenn's husband's

x-girlfriend (ok- it's a soap), tells Jenn and the Dr. that ny should

get his vaccines because the fevor went away the next day, that is common,

and it's more important for him to be " protected " . As these words

were

coming out of his mouth, my heart stopped.

Lucy also made some statement about how vaccines are totally safe and being

concerned about them is wrong.

I know this whole scene had a purpose (to show how Lucy is in their lives,

etc)

and the whole dialoge was plot driven (Jenn is worried about losing the

baby).

But, the crap that came out of Lucy's mouth was so irresponsible.

The Dr. told she could wait a week (thank god). Then goes

to her husband and says " we dodged a bullet with the vaccinations

today " .

(LOL) She says how Lucy tried to make her feel like a bad mother for not

wanting to vaccinate her son.

When I get the transcript, I'll post them over the list. It was very

interesting. I already wrote an email to CBS, but i'll send them more after

getting the transcript. I think we really need to educate the writers of

the show.

And before you ask- YES, there was a Merck commercial between this scene.

(how ironic) Thank god the doctor didn't force Jenn to vaccinate the baby-

or I would have _________________ (fill in horrible thing here).

In the back of my mind, I was hoping ny would get the vaccine, have a

reaction and then start showing signs of autism. But, after seeing the

Merck commercial.

I wish. I just had some non-fat yogurt. After all the stress from the LIAF & C, I decided to join a local gym. I've been going 5-6 times a week and even taking my son swimming once a week. It's been about 2 months now. I've been taking Yoga too- which really helps. They have a daycare room, which loves. It wasn’t but it was 2

other cast members. When they asked the mom why she didn’t

vaccinate, she said she read on the internet about that it might cause

autism. They said that was crap and said that her kid had encephalitis.

She says “what’s that?” that was where I knew this

would be bad cause if you did 2 seconds of research on vaccines and autism back

then, encephalitis is one of the first things that came up cause it was MMR all

the time back then. So the show writers were just trying to paint anyone

who didn’t vaccinate as complete idiots, I guess illiterate too.

Yes and no. he is a CAN spokesman. His nephew

has autism. He actually refused to take part in the episode. He has like 2

lines at the very beginning and leaves before they start the vaccine story. He

got those CAN signs put up in the “ER”.

P.S. Hey I agree on the yoga. Helps both the bod and the mind. We

just opened our pool too and spending an hour a day, while I make my

phone calls walking around in a cicle is great too. Gotta do it for

ourselves, especially when there is all of this negativity being

thrown our way.

It's always part of a message. Soaps always have these nice little pc

messages. Wouldn't it be something if ny ended up with autism.

What's more, how interesting that Lucy's been gone to college for 2

years and managed to do 8 years of college! Gotta love these soaps...

I remember hearing rumours at one point that one of the character's chidren was going to be autistic but instead they made the child deaf.

Her name is . She is from the Long Island area and has a son with autism around 12-13 years old. She uses the same email to harrass people as she does to post- so it wasn't hard to figure her out. She also sent me this positive email in Oct.

It was because one of the show's executives was having a fight with his wife about vaccinating their baby. He decided to write the plot line into the show to make a point with her.

I almost pulled an Elvis that night and shot the TV.

His cousin's child has autism. He is one of the nicest actors you will ever meet. He provides financial support for CAN.
