Guest guest
Dental vaccine could help billions May. 25, 2006 at 2:55PM Worldwide, 5 billion people suffer from tooth decay, and dental cavities affect 60 percent to 90 percent of U.S. school children and most adults. In the United States, dental caries remain the most common childhood disease -- five times more common than asthma, according to The World Oral Health Report. Researchers at The Forsyth Institute have made significant advances in research to develop a vaccine against cavities, according to Taubman and J. . The dentists have discovered key molecules that can stimulate a human immune response and have successfully conducted immunization trials in animal models. The global epidemic of dental caries highlights the growing imperative to develop a vaccine to prevent cavities, says Taubman. Dental caries is an infectious disease that occurs when microorganisms accumulate on the teeth, especially in the presence of sucrose, or sugar, says Taubman. A full report of the scientific and public-health imperative for a vaccine against dental caries will be published in the July issue of Nature Reviews Immunology. I'm tossing around a few different names for it. Guest guest
Designed by the MEN who won't take a birth control shot? How about 25mcg of mercury in THAT bad boy -- and some salt peter. There - now you're crazy, poisoned and you can't get it up.... and I won't get pregnant.... Voila! Not a good day for me to read this, as I take my unvaccinated 5 year old to the pediatrician for a " well " visit so I can have to stinking paperwork for school. I am armed with her Doctor's Data test showing MERCURY in her blood -- and this without vaccination! Snarky day -- (snarly too!) KS > > LOL!! Irritating?? I thought you were comic relief. Guest guest
Geez Henry you're right. If we hadn't went for all the wellness check-ups; we wouldn't be dealing with all this illness. I had a friend that laughed at me because I " paid " for my son's autism by getting him inocculated at the pediatrician's office. She, on the other hand, got her daughter's autism for free courtesy of the local health department. > > > > LOL!! Irritating?? I thought you were comic relief. Guest guest
Sarcasm is an acquired taste. I am not offended by it in the least nor am I offended by differing opinions. I find it very entertaining although, it took years of conditioning on my husband’s part. Guest guest
My global warming stance is simply a reflection of reality (better said: my reality). I do believe that carbon dioxide emissions contribute to global warming. I just don't know how much. I just don't know how much of what we are seeing in environmental warming is the contribution of increased carbon dioxide vs. energy release at the surface of the sun, which will fluctuate quite markedly as a function of time. It is obviously some. Is it 100%? It can't be. Is it 0%? Definitely not. So it's somewhere in between. But before we are willing to foresake, say, 10-15% of the gross domestic product with a wholesale change in any number of things which will drastically reduce carbon dioxide emissions- I think we should know what we are doing. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be reducing carbon dioxide, I'm just not sure it will have the impact people presume it will have. It can't be done now because there is simply no honest debate about anything that the present government does (and let's not get into some red state/blue state sidebar, because it's not productive). Note that subsequent to the extinction of the dinosaurs there were several ice ages, one fairly recently. I'm not prescient nor do I have extraordinary insight, but I do know the sabre-toothed tigers were not driving diesel big rigs. Nor were they even lighting fires. Thus, the previous cyclical nature of the huge difference in surface temperatures of the earth is most likely an external phenomenon- not energy released from the internal core of the earth or created by biological systems (e.g., the burning of forests). One can point to any number of external factors- but the most likely external factor is the cyclical energy release at the sun's surface. Notwithstanding my view about the contribution of carbon dioxide to the earth's surface temperature at this time in the history of the world (as opposed to any earlier time in the world), I nevertheless fully support the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and believe there should be numerous incentives to provide for that reduction. I drive a Honda civic (70% US content, made in sville, Ohio- that was an important consideration for me). I can afford much more. It's just something that I do because I believe I'm being responsible doing it (my wife and NT son say it is because I'm simply cheap!). Thus, I try to limit my use of gasoline and I'm somewhat turned off by the Hummers and big SUVs- not simply because I believe that the increase in carbon dioxide emission is at least partly responsible for global warming- but much more importantly- because it represents sound environmental, economic, political and domestic security policy. It is simply incredibly stupid to be importing fossil fuels from politically insecure/sensitive areas of the globe so that one can drive a big car down the highway (the typical automobile is approximately 3% efficient- when you look at work performed i.e., how many miles you drive, weight of car, etc.- as a function of energy use). It's just incredibly stupid. And it's a waste of money (my wife and son are right- I am cheap!!!!). Sound policy to increase energy efficiency because it's cost effective (there you go again, you cheap bastard!!!) and to increase the diversity of energy sources with an emphasis on renewable sources such as geothermal, gravitational, wind, water movement (hydroelectric and other), hydrogen (the sun produces energy through fusion reactions), etc. is the economically sensible thing to do. But it can't be done now. Because of big oil. Because of this government. Because of our media. That's why in addition to driving my little civic, I believe this society needs a new found Teddy Roosevelt to clean up the corruption and break up big oil and the MSM and restore some unbiased, honest debate, competition and entrepreneurial spirit to the pressing issues of our times- not just with thimerosal (a huge one), but also other issues including most importantly, enviromental issues. And it won't come from a red state or a blue state mentality. It will come from the heart. RE: dental vaccine could help billions ... Sarcasm is an acquired taste. Guest guest
Thanks. It's actually not heated at all. I'm just a blabber mouth. I follow the adage: Don't pass judgement- unless its in gest. Life is far too short to hold a grudge. There are exceptions to that adage: CDC, AAP, politicians who make our lives far, far worse, etc. There, I'm holding a grudge. Best RE: dental vaccine could help billions ... H , Thanks for your clarification on the matter! I’m glad to see your opinions are so heated. I agree with most of what you said. Although I think our depletion of the ozone might be the reason the Sun’s energy plays such a large role in global warming, or at least in speeding up the processes. I really don’t care which party Rep or Dem does the deed of change, but it has to be done. I know hydrogen is going to be a bigger part of the energy picture sooner that people think. I only wish awareness and action were in full swing by now rather than ignorantly lagging behind.- From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of H Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 1:26 PMEOHarm Subject: Re: dental vaccine could help billions ...
