Guest guest
I think the point is that in this society, advantage inures to the victim. That's why Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling of Enron, despite all evidence to the contrary, try to portray themselves as victims. It's true in most of what we do. We simply root for and empathize/sympathize with the underdog/downtrodden. Once the damage has been established, the second or later step will be to try to fix it. While it is absolutely correct that the vaccine protocol was responsible for all of the damage, that presentation is a further step down the road. Given the way the MSM has given short shrift to this issue, someone has to do the work of the MSM, at least with respect to establishing a face on those injured. It's very early in the approach and was very effective. It puts a face (faces) on the problem and ties it to an emotional response. The more analytical approach (the teaching part about the vaccines, mercury, etc.) will come next. A next step will be a discussion of the protocol and the damage caused. Re: Documentary on Autism Stuns Internet Viewers OK - get ready to flame me!That video is the most pathetic waste of bandwidth I've ever seen. Rather than depicting how "pitiful" out situations are (if one indeed chooses to see them as pitiful), it would be much more helpful for those moms featured to talk about thimerosal, MMR, DTaP and Proquad, AND the interventions that are indeed working for many children across the USA and abroad, to undo the neurological consequences of this toxin and these vaccines...The drivel shown in the video may move folks to pity "our plight" but it also takes the emphasis off of answers, which is in keeping of the commitment of Autism Speaks to bury the vaccine-autism issue. Guest guest
http://www.cdc.gov/communication/entertainment_education.htm The CDC recognizes the power of popular entertainment in shaping the perceptions and practices of its viewers. Television shows, movies, and music not only command the attention of their audiences, but also reinforce existing behavior, demonstrate new behavior, and affect audience emotions. Main Entry: col·lu·sion Pronunciation: k & -'lü-zh & nFunction: nounEtymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin collusion-, collusio, from colludere: secret agreement or cooperation especially for an illegal or deceitful purpose http://www.cdcfoundation.org/ Programmatic Support The following corporations, businesses and corporate foundations supported CDC Foundation programs that were initiated or active between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005. US Magnesium LLC USF Medical Services Support Corporation Wellpoint Foundation Wyeth Consumer Healthcare Wyeth Pharmaceuticals http://www.cdcfoundation.org/healththreats/autism.aspx One hypothesis about the cause of Autism Spectrum Disorder is that the disorder is caused by childhood immunizations; however, the weight of currently available scientific evidence does not support this hypothesis. In 2000, CDC and the National Institutes of Health asked the Institute of Medicine to establish an independent expert committee (the Immunization Safety Review Committee) to examine evidence related to the theory that MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine causes ASD, as well as a second theory that vaccines containing the preservative thimerosal cause neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and speech or language delay. A report from the Immunization Safety Review Committee in May 2004 concluded that: neither thimerosal-containing vaccines or MMR vaccine are associated with ASDs. the hypotheses regarding a link between ASDs and the MMR vaccine and thimerosal-containing vaccines lack supporting evidence and are only theoretical. future research to find the cause of ASDs should be directed toward other promising lines of inquiry that are supported by current knowledge and evidence and offer more promise for providing an answer. http://www.autisticsociety.org/modules.php?name=News & file=print & sid=251 But Offitt and colleagues at the National Partnership for Immunisation recently completed a review of mercury studies and concluded that the very small dose of mercury contained in thimerosal-preserved vaccines is cleared by the body before it can do any damage. "The mercury ... from thimerosal - it is eliminated from the body much more quickly than methyl mercury," said Dr. Polly Sager of the NPI and a researcher at the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Here is the study they were trying to use to support no causal role because they thought out of the blood is out of the body. The authors see it differently than Maggie Fox and Polly Sager: http://www.ehponline.org/members/2005/7712/7712.pdf Data from the present study support the prediction that, although little accumulation of Hg in the blood occurs over time with repeated vaccinations, accumulation of Hg in the brain of infants will occur. Thus, conclusion regarding the safety of thimerosal drawn from blood Hg clearance data in human infants receiving vaccines may not be valid, Recent publications have proposed a direct link between the use of thimerosal-containing vaccines and the significant rise in the number of children being diagnosed with autism, a serious and prevalent developmental disorder (for review, see IOM 2001). Results from an initial IOM review of the safety of vaccines found that there was not sufficient evidence to render an opinion on the relationship between ethylmercury exposure and developmental disorders in children (IOM 2001). The IOM review did, however, note the possibility of such a relationship and recommended further studies be conducted. A recently published second review (IOM 2004) appears to have abandoned the earlier recommendation as well as backed away from the American Academy of Pediatrics goal. This approach is difficult to understand, given our current limited knowledge of the toxicokinetics and developmental neurotoxicity of thimerosal, a compound that has been (and will continue to be) injected in millions of newborns and infants. Re: Documentary on Autism Stuns Internet Viewers OK - get ready to flame me!That video is the most pathetic waste of bandwidth I've ever seen. Guest guest
I am not flaming because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I think this presentation just shows the real side of autism. I don't think it was for pity, just an eye opener. Like Imus said before he played it on his show, a lot of people associate our kids with RainMan. Then you have autistics like McElwain that are high functioning. People look at this and wonder what we are complaining about. Autism doesn't look that bad to them. They don't know why we are on the government to help us with our children's needs. Help us with the load of debt that we are in trying to treat our kids. They don't know that McElwain and Rain Man are not the norm. My son is high functioning. Because he is, I sent this to everyone that I know. I want them to see what autism is to others. You can't base what you think about it on Tyler. He is mild and I have days where I could pull my hair out. I couldn't imagine what it is like for these families until I saw this film. Just an eye opener. Guest guest
Blow torches Up!!!! I am the first one to get furious if someone throws pity in my direction. This is NOT what this is about. This is about letting the general population know what autism is really like. They don't all makes a ton of 3-pointers, or play piano, or are a products of " geeks getting lucky " Our kids are not socially awkward genius's They are ill. This video doesn't address the vaccine issue, true. But it is certainly a start. Re: Documentary on Autism Stuns Internet Viewers OK - get ready to flame me! Guest guest
Everyone's experience is different I do think it is important for folks to see the side of autism that is not the brighter side. I think that they will do other documentaries that will show other sides of autism. Honestly I do not know what " level " of autism my son is at. We have come a long way as well. But there are people out there with children who have sleep issues, behavior problems, gi issues, social and communications problems that far surpass what we live with everyday. cheri > > Understand... Guest guest
Thank you . I too think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I had my opinion as the mother of a child Moderately severe on the spectrum when the Autism: Hidden Epidemic showed on NBC a year ago. I felt like they had not portrayed my life, where I am hit, kicked, spit at on a daily basis, or the fortress that we live in so that Austin can't runaway, and the pain I live with everyday. I have actually had people say, " At least he doesn't have anything serious! " I for one, am saying , " Thank you Autism Speaks and the family for letting people knoe what is the truth in my world " . Guest guest
Pity promotes charity....this was made for a fundraiser and it did what it intended. It raised $2 million in one night for Autism Speaks. The problem is with being negative is yes, many of us live that life or have, and folks at a fundraiser don't want hear about what caused autism unfortunately. Too what about lifespan issues or showing that our kids can progress from a child not much unlike those depicted to a child that made the honor roll at school like our son. But we bought that with years and years of intervention and out of pocket expenses....but most importantly with a huge, unmeasurable amount of love. Empathy and compassion is what we seek, not pity and charity. So we do need to show all sides of autism, but all show there are good outcomes as well as a huge need for lifespan services. Just my two cents, Carolyn > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi People, > > > > This is the article to appear in Tuesday's SAR on the Autism > Every > > > Day > > > > documentary. However, with Yeargin-Allsop, a CDC employee sitting on the proposal review board, you can bet if any proposal even eludes to vaccines, she is going to stop it in its tracks... Again, Marshalyn Yeargin-Allsop needs to be kicked off of the Autism Speaks scientific advisory board. Guest guest
I have to say, that altho I think what Autism Speaks is doing for awareness is incredible, I would not suggest to anyone in my family or support group to contribute. I see too many children everyday in my city who will NEVER get one stitch of bio-medical treatment until the truth about their poisoning goes mainstream. My heart breaks for them everyday that their parents have no resources and no doctor that will ever do more for them than write them a scrip for speech and OT. The groups that are working to bring the truth out ASAP...NAA, A- CHAMP for example, deserve the money more in my opinion. Guest guest
This film did not address vaccine issues, this is true, but as an RN who works with local children in an acute care psychiatric hospital, and often sees autistic children, and some adults too, by the way,......I felt that this film did not even begin to show the true picture of what these lives are like, the children's and the parents. but it is a start...and I admire the strength and dedication of those who are living this life , fighting this battle, demanding answers to unawered questions and trying to put a stop to the misguided and obnoxious arrogance of the medical profession with regard to vaccination and thimerosal. This film brought me to tears. With the onslaught of new vaccines being brought to clinical trial and market today, there should be no doubt that huge mistakes are being made to an entire generation of children. Even when thimerosal is out of the vaccines, there will continue to be problems arising from the absolutely insane vaccine schedule (and all thats in these vaccines) that we are facing now and in the future.. In addition, vaccines are being sought for every illness imaginable in adults. In December 2005 a Datamonitor report stated that there are over 200 marketed and pipeline therapeutic vaccines. "Therapeutic vaccine development is currently heavily weighted towards cancer vaccines, which account for 60.6% of all pipeline projects. However, the early-stage pipeline is starting to show greater interest in other therapeutic areas, from HIV and infectious disease to nicotine addiction, CNS and cardiovascular diseases" "Therapeutic vaccines development is seeing an increasing trend towards the use of multiple antigens (and adjuvants)" There are already 30 vaccines given before the age of two...genetic engineered vaccines in the offing, ..more are being added... as we see with the new adolescent vaccines coming out. I think medicine has gone mad....stark raving mad to fail to believe that these could have no long term adverse effects on a huge number of children. They must be held accountable! they and the corporations bending the archer's bow. Then to add behavior control drugs as the kind i see handed out like candy......doing even more long term damage, and given without fully informed consent is literally beyond the pale! May,16 0922 GMT [Dow ] Big pharmaceutical companies are discovering vaccines as a growth market, which benefits from an oligopolistic market structure and the absence of generic risk, says Bear Stearns. GlaxoKline (GSK), Sanofi-Aventis (SNY) and Novartis (NVS) are among the European companies that are taking advantage of attractive pricing to create a new generation of blockbuster vaccines. Bear Stearns considers Novartis to be the furthest advanced in developing a new meningitis vaccine. Analyst cautions that Glaxo's strategy of narrowing the numbers of targets for some of the vaccines it's developing may result in a marketing disadvantage for the UK company versus Merck (MRK). http://www.newratings.com/analyst_news/article_1276371.html Vaccines helped drive sales growth at Sanofi-Aventis in the first quarterVaccines sales rose by 31 per cent to €512m. Influenza vaccines, in which Sanofi is the world market leader, also rose by 31 per cent to €72m. May 6, 2006: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12639932/ 'Big Pharma' (non-biotech companies with annual revenues >$10bn) has historically focused on small molecules. However, this is set to change, with around 60% of revenue growth forecast to come from biologic products (therapeutic proteins and monoclonal antibodies): by 2010, annual sales of biologics will have increased by $26bn, compared to a $13bn increase for small molecules. Big Pharma has assumed a strong position within the antibody market, a major attraction of this product type being the total absence of generic risk (meaning they are interested because of the higher priced patented drugs they can come up with whose patent protection will fill their pockets) http://www.datamonitor.com/~809fb46acf274edc9f4082396412d269~/industries/research/?pid=DMHC2190 None of them are interested in the child, nor the family who suffers at their hands. Guest guest
1) I think the Autism Speaks video accomplishes a great deal in 13 minutes, and all involved should be proud. 2) Getting federal funding out the door is very important. Autism Speaks/NAAR combo is more likely to fund quality research than NAAR alone. $1 billion is a lot of bake sales. As Bob said on Imus, Autism is the most common developmental disorder, yet receives only 3 tenths of 1% of NIH funding. > > >>>>>> > > >>>>>> http://tinyurl.com/gjrx6 > > >>>>>> March 3, 2006 Photo Op > > >>>>>> > > >>>>>> (search Bill Frist) > > >>>>>> Re: Documentary on Autism Stuns > > >>> Internet > > >>>> Viewers > > >>>>>> > > >>>>>> > > >>>>>> Understand - My biggest concern is that the lines > > >>> between > > >>>> Autism > > >>>>>> Speaks and the CDC are becoming more and more blurred... The primary reason autism is not well-funded is because perhaps, the public health agencies already know the cause of autism. Would anyone really expect them to seriously fund investigations into their own negligence and duplicity? Does anyone really expect OJ Simpson to find the real killers of his ex and her friend, as he promised? Bernie Rimland's Autism Research Institute has been able to accomplish with a few hundred thousand dollars in funding research what " the establishment " hasn't been able to come close to accomplishing with the hundreds of millions of private and public money they have spend in the last decade. The result of ARI's efforts have produced and tested treatments that have recovered or ameliorated the suffering of hundreds, if not into the thousands of children - children just like Christen . Yet, I can not think of one piece of research - not one - from the efforts of CAN, NAAR, the CDC or the NIH that has yet done a thing for our children. But when it comes to funding, ARI science and scientists are ignored. Where is the funding for Burbacher, Horning, Deth, Haley and Geier, for starters? What is wrong with this picture? Lenny ps. I am not forgetting SafeMinds and the NAA other allied groups who have, and are funding research that counts. I also remember some 8 or 9 years ago, Holly Bortfeld held a bake sale to raise money for ARI research. It's because of parents like Holly and Bernie Rimland and the folks at Safeminds and NAA that we have anything at all around to treat our children. Guest guest
Bernie Rimland attempts to bury all research he does not support,e.g. U.of Paris.
