i am sensing a lot of anger amy, so let me say that i too am not the enemy.

nor do i live in an ivory tower

the work you were being asked to do sounded like work you could not

physically do, so i personally feel you could have rejected it reasonably on

those grounds without having to sound disrespectful to other disabled people

who due to having a different disability could indeed do those physically

tasks.

instead you came across that it was insult to ask someone with a high IQ to

be lumped with less intelligent people who might pose a risk. this may well

not be at all what you meant but it was open to that interpreation. that

sort of thinking comes dangerously close to those times we might sense

someone doesnt want sit next to us because of our disability.

i dont see how you being placed in a dementia centre would take away from

the care of my mother. if i am totally honest i would prefer my mother to be

supported in the community like i am, but her disability isnt seen as

deserving of resources as mine is. the people you talk about generally arent

well resourced in terms of being integrated into mainstream society.

i am not asking you to be a responsibile for managed care situations, or to

be a miracle worker or to work yourself into an early grave and i am sorry

if i wasnt clear enough to prevent you reading that into my post.

i am asking you, and i ask everyone given the chance, to be respectful in

how you talk about us disabled people. if we are to have the hope of

non-disabled people being our allies for change then we to have to clearly

show we are the allies of ALL disabled people.

First they came for the Communists but I was not a Communist so I did not

speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists but I

was not one of them, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews but

I was not Jewish so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there

was no one left to speak out for me.

i hope some of the post more directly relatec to Voc rehab will have helped

you find work that is meaningful for you.

Your point really came through with ...

That is a very powerful reminder.

You are twisting what I said and over laying your own life

issues on me.

How does one person venting on a membership required discussion board

mean all people with a disability are being oppressed?

If I am put into a job placement in the position that a better

qualified worker could do the physical demands of the job- it would

affect people's care. If hypothetically I was in your mom's care

center it would take resources away.

If me or anybody else is innappropriately placed in a care facility-

then another person might be left without any services they need at

all.

Nobody wins when they get shafted into rigid institutional settings

but me describing my experiences didn't put anybody in there.

I never thought or said I'm " better " I said it's innappropriate.

There's a difference.

Hang me for what I do not what you warp.

/Might?/ No, it sounded more like she was talking about a /particular/

No more / no less.

Jeff,

Actually, Amy did say more. If you follow this thread way back to the

beginning, you will find that was pointing out that Amy's use

of the words like retard and loony tune to describe others with a

disablilty only hurts our community as a whole. Amy's responses did

not address 's statement. Of course, I cannot speak for

everyone, but I believe there is an agreement that Amy should not be

forced to work in an environment that could put her at risk of harm.

That is all was saying. No more and no less.

Thank you Jeff [virtual hugs and kisses]!

Oh my gawd- somebody Finally actually understood my post instead of

getting their panties in a twist over something I never said.

At least one person here isn't bitching me out over another person

twisting what I said completely into an orgami project that dosen't

resemble anywhere near the truth.

And anyone here knows that Lori has had a vendetta against me for

ages that slants all her posts about me in a negative direction.

Fairness is what I'm asking for not hateful lies about me. Is that

so much to ask ?

Hang me for what I really do not some 12th hand rumor.

this is the very last time i am going to reply as i am concerned this is

becoming spam for most people.

i feel it is not ok for you to make personal accusations against lori or

myself or indeed my panties. i personally have not twisted anything or

uttered hateful lies.

i just said i felt some of the language you used was offensive to disabled

people.

Amy,

Wow, I just saw this after I sent you a thank you reply for telling

me about the chocolate power gel packs. Those sound like a great

alternative for me and I appreciated the information.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I know we strongly disagreed about the

whole Jerry /MDA thing and I know I went too far with you. For

that, I apologize and hope you can forgive me. I think we are very

similar in that we have opinions that often deviate from the norm and

we aren't afraid to standby what we believe in. I think that is a

good thing but it also doesn't make us very popular sometimes. I

often feel like I am over here and everyone else is over there.

That's okay though, I am accepted here and have made very valuable

friendships over the years.

Maybe we could even be friends? Who knows what we could do if we

partnered up! lol

Thank you,

I'm touched here and I really do appreciate this.

Years ago a former member here and I went debating back and forth at

first and now we have been great friends ever since.

If this is a bury the hatchet momment than I'm all for it.

In the movie To Wong Foo Chichi put it better than I can " Nobody's so

broke they can't afford a new friend "

Peace, friendship and cookies {and frosting! too}:)
