Guest guest
Today is Autism Awareness Day at Shea Stadium in Queens, New York. Sponsored by the New York Mets. My six year old grandson is attending his first baseball game with his baby sister , dad and mom. First pitch was thrown by Liam Watkins, autistic son of NY channel 11's Jim Watkins. During fourth inning, Watkins was invited into the broadcast booth and was interviewed about autism by Met announcers. Jim was given ample opportunity to express his views about the "many theories" concerning what has caused epidemic of autism, including vaccinations, which he seemed to dismiss as nothing more credible than mere speculation. Apparently Jim is only certain of three things: Autism is incurable. The cause of autism remains a "medical mystery". Education is the key for parents who have a child diagnosed autistic. I will contact NY Mets organization to thank them for giving my grandson his first day at a major league baseball game and for promoting Autism Awareness Day. Apparently they have done this before and I hope they continue effort in the future. I also intend to email Jim Watkins at channel 11 and thank him for participating in the day. I suspect Jim successfully promoted Autism Awareness Day to his own network (channel 11) and the NY Mets organization. Every little bit brings us closer to true awareness of what happened to our kids.
