what she had to say...does anyone want to share with her why we

oppose mercury in vaccines?

Subject: HB 394 - A mom asks you to oppose

Dear Representatives:

I am a mother of two whose family will soon be relocating to the

Baltimore area. Having been involved in Minnesota's defeat of

legislation similar to H.B. 394, a ban on thimerosal-containing

vaccines, I am disappointed to observe that land is considering

this proposal.

Studies purporting to show a connection between thimerosal and autism

are invariably authored by individuals with an interest in the

outcome of the research. You are probably familiar with the team of

Dr. Mark and Mr. Geier of Silver Spring, longtime vaccine

critics who recently released a paper titled " Early Downward Trends

in Neurodevelopmental Disorders Following Removal of Thimerosal-

Containing Vaccines. " The Geiers did not disclose that they have a

pending patent application for a protocol designed to treat what they

describe as mercury-induced autism - an egregious conflict of

interest which flies in the face of any claim to intellectual

integrity and calls the results of their study sharply into

question. The Geiers have been specifically admonished for their

sloppy work by organizations such as the American Academy of

Pediatrics, the Institute of Medicine, and the U.S. Federal Court of

Claims, and their results are contradicted by every other piece of

scholarly research on the subject, including studies published in

Pediatrics and JAMA.

I am attaching below a message I sent to the chief sponsor of H.B.

394, Senator Hollinger, and hope that as you deliberate over the

bill, you will consider the issues raised therein.
