Guest guest
It just ended. They did say they had some technical difficulties earlier. Can't wait to hear how it went. > > damn Mac- i couldn't listen to Autism one radio. Guest guest
I only caught approx 20 minutes of it. Mr. Grossman from ASA and Kirby. was his usual self, but more assertive in his statements. Mr Grossman said he supports more research into environmental causes of autism. One thing that just really pisses me off is when someone of Mr. Grossman's credentials keeps throwing out the number 1.5 million autistic people in the USA. He also says there is an epidemic of autism. If you say there is 1.5 million autistic people and in the same breath throw out the 1.5 million number you are in using an oxymoron. This number is derived by taking all 250 million americans and dividing it by 166. This number implies a stable rate for all age groups, thus no epidemic. > > damn Mac- i couldn't listen to Autism one radio. Guest guest
Thanks Bob for your observations. When talking about co-morbidity some " experts " promote the theory that autism occurs with numerous mental illnesses (schizophrenia, bio-polar and others). Justification to put ill children on psychotropic medications that have serious side effects and questionable benefits and have never been tested on children and always written off label. Boosting sales of blockbuster meds for the pharmaceutical industry. Meds masking the underlying problems, as you mentioned gi or immune dysfunctions. Kids never really getting the medical treatment they need. Maybe it is too soon to tell, but it appears as if ASA is just going to add to the confusion; therefore causing delays in getting beneficial research (more of we don't know what causes autism?) and bring nothing useful to the conversation(vaccines/thimerosal) from your analysis. BTW, I'm still waiting for a call back from Lee Grossman, I'll let you know when I get it.... > > Excellent point. ASA and AS have been incorrectly using the 1.5 million > number for years.
