Guest guest
I'd like to force these criminals to sell girlscout cookies in sub-zero temperatures on their weekend furloughs from federal prison... :-) To get to the girlscout cookie portion of their punishment, they would have to face the jury box. They unfortunately seem to have the power to eliminate one of the three branches of government on this issue. This is more about criminal liability, I think they use the term "willful misconduct", than compensation for injuries. The Sickening Politics Of Vaccine Legislation Dec. 5, 2005http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_49/c3962062.htm Full indemnity could be a trillion-dollar commitment, but that's completely impractical and unaffordable, Republicans say. During negotiations between Kennedy and Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) on indemnity, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) summoned senators to his office to call off the talks. Indemnity will never fly, he said.Vague CompensationInstead, Industry and Frist are backing an effort led by Senators Burr (R-N.C.) and Judd Gregg (R-N.H.). They would limit liability to vaccines designated as essential to fighting pandemic flu or other deadly new diseases and would direct the Secretary of Health & Human Services to create a compensation program, with details and funding to be determined later. "We just don't have enough information to set one up now," argues a GOP staffer. Hastert, Frist said to rig bill for drug firms February 9, 2006Frist denies protection was added in secrethttp://www.gallatinnewsexaminer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060209/NEWS02/602090405/1309/MTCN04 WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and House Speaker Dennis Hastert engineered a backroom legislative maneuver to protect pharmaceutical companies from lawsuits, say witnesses to the pre-Christmas power play. The language was tucked into a Defense Department appropriations bill at the last minute without the approval of members of a House-Senate conference committee, say several witnesses, including a top Republican staff member. In an interview, Frist, a doctor and Tennessee Republican, denied that the wording was added that way. Trial lawyers and other groups condemn the law, saying it could make it nearly impossible for people harmed by a vaccine to force the drug maker to pay for their injuries. Action Alert: Frist's Eli Lilly Vaccine Legislation March 25, 2003 http://talkleft.com/new_archives/002243.html Bill Frist is up to his old tricks with the Eli Lilly vaccine legislation. Senator Bill Frist, with the help of Judd Gregg (R-NH), is resubmitting the Eli Lilly Thimerosal provison, with additional devastating changes to the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Markup is scheduled for today. Frist thinks he may have the votes. http://tinyurl.com/gjrx6
