Guest guest
Hey Lenny, This is really good! Where are the rest of our ELECTED officials though? I don't see (IL)Durbin or Obama on this. We are asking to investigate a poison causing harm and I think we need to remind our ELECTED Congressional officials that we want them to join in on this. They may not know about it so, with the Mercury Generation March coming up and April being Autism Awareness month( are they aware that 1:166 parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles...teachers, etc. are voters) it would be nice to push this to their attention. How many years did it take for the issue of lead to be considered dangerous and.... it was not injected. We need to remind them of this. schafer <schafer@...> wrote: From: "schafer" <schafer@...>"Schafer Autism Report" <SAReport@...>,"Schafer Autism Report" <sarnet@...>Subject: Congr. Leaders Finally Speak Out About Thimerosal and Mercury InVaccinesDate: Wed, 15 Mar 2006 15:50:27 -0800 Announcement Congressional Leaders Finally Speak Out About Thimerosal and Mercury In Vaccines "Many of us in Congress are concerned about the possibility of an association between autism and thimerosal in vaccines." From 2/22/06 Congressional letter to NIEHS http://www.a-champ.org/Congressionalletter2-22-06.html In a groundbreaking move, the U.S. Congress has enacted legislation aimed at investigating the association between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism. In an effort to represent the interests of our children the A-CHAMP's (Advocates for Children’s Health affected by Mercury Poisoning) legislative team worked with Congress to pass this unprecedented legislation. The aim of the legislation is to create independent research into the Vaccine Safety Datalink – the secret government database that may hold the key to the vaccine-autism controversy. In December 2005, Senator ph Lieberman (Connecticut) listened to the concerns of parents and troubling questions brought to him by A-CHAMP. In response Senator Lieberman consulted with his colleagues, and obtained support for the following language to be included in the Labor/HHS Appropriations Bill: To the National Institute Of Environmental Health Sciences The conference agreement includes $647,608,000 for the NationalInstitute of Environmental Health Sciences as proposed bythe House instead of $667,372,000 as proposed by the Senate. The conferees urge NIEHS to work with CDC and expert independentresearchers on research that could identify or rule out anyassociation between thimerosal exposure in pediatric vaccines andincreased rates of autism. The conferees believe that the VaccineSafety Datalink (VSD), a CDC-constructed database that follows 7million immunized children from 1990 to present, could be helpfulin the research, especially regarding pre-2001 VSD data and post-2000 VSD data, since thimerosal was removed from most childhoodvaccines in 2001. The conferees urge NIEHS and CDC to organizea workshop by May 2006 to explore the research possibilities andscientific feasibility of such a study and report back to the Houseand Senate Appropriations Committees soon after. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To ensure that the intent of Congress is followed, a bi-partisan letter sent by Congressional leaders in the House and Senate was sent to Schwartz, Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Among other very strong statements the letter says the following:"If the federal government is going to have a study whose results will be broadly accepted, such a study cannot be led by the CDC." Independent research is important because the management of the CDC itself may be called into question should a thimerosal-autism link be established. The rest of the letter is just as good. Guest guest
Yes, Lenny this was very good news. I have already read the Schafer report 3/15/2006 7:00:39 three times, even had my wife read it just to may sure I was not dreaming. I was at the meeting that NIEHS provided the grant for last summer (a workshop on thimerosal) that Lyn Redwood from safeminds and Laurd Bono from NAA had worked SO hard to put together. WOW, could this be the study that will finally prove to everyone we are/were right? Thank you Lyn and Laurd I am sure there is more, but that is the two that I know of. Guest guest
Yes, Jeff, some Congressional staff attended the conference last summer which had an impact on them. The conference was a very important achievement - thanks to Lyn and and others it has helped moved the scientific process along. This letter, however, from Congress by Lieberman and seven others was the product of many meetings between parents, primarily involving Bobbie Manning of A-CHAMP, among others, and Sen. Lieberman's staff. The result was the inclusion of language in the HHS/Labor Appropriations bill. The next step was this letter urging NIEHS to conduct thimerosal related research. This was an effort separate from the NIEHS funded conference, started from a legislative advocacy angle, and to which a number of parents contributed apart from the NIEHS conference. Hopefully all these efforts will have an effect in combination that will get the research done that we need. RJK On Mar 15, 2006, at 10:30 PM, jeffmillrun wrote: > Yes, Lenny this was very good news. Guest guest
This is the culmination of years of groundwork being laid by the entire autism community. You all should be congratulated for getting thimerosal on the radar of our legislators. You never let up - your thousands of emails and faxes and visits with your legislators have finally paid off! So take a bow everyone! You should be very proud of yourselves. Let's get down to the rally in DC and make sure they follow through. Hold the CDC accountable for their failures and finally give us the research we need to help our kids! Leaders Finally Speak Out About Thimerosal and Mercury In Vaccines Hi Jeff, Thanks for your note of appreciation. Just to comment that the legislation was not a Safeminds or NAA project -- but crafted by A-Champ and Bobby Manning, but they can always use a thanking for what they ARE doing. WOW, could this be the study that will finally prove to everyone we are/were right?Thank you Lyn and Laurd I am sure there is more, but that is the two that I know of.JeffFort Oglethorpe, Ga. > From: "schafer" <schafer@...>> "Schafer Autism Report" <SAReport@...>,> "Schafer Autism Report" <sarnet@...>> Subject: Congr. And for those who have never met Bobbi Manning- she is a machine I saw her talk to politicians and she is a miracle worker. One of my favorite memories is Bono at Clinton's office after the July Rally. The aide says " so can you get us changes for everything in this bill? " and pulls out a stack of papers- like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat- and says " here you go- my changes are in blue " . The look on the aide's face was priceless. Guest guest
> > This is the culmination of years of groundwork being laid by the entire > autism community. YES! This can not be stressed enough. Our progress is a collective effort -- A-CHAMP is an amalgamation - if you will - of anti-mercury organizations. The three organizations spearheading our political successes, NAA, SafeMinds and A-CHAMP have shared board members. The person who we cannot forget to acknowledge in all of this Liz Birt. This amazing mom with her vision, co-founded all three groups. I still miss her dearly. Lenny ps Mercury dads kick a little booty, too, doncha know. Guest guest
I agree with and Jeff. This legislation and the strong statement by some brave legislators evidences the collective impact of the work of all parents, and the merits of our views on the issues and how our children became ill - and now is the time to increase our contacts with legislators as a group. Well stated, . Bob K. On Mar 17, 2006, at 5:51 PM, jeffmillrun wrote: > Well said !
