It's funny there's a thread on this, because last night I was just

thinking, if Frist becomes president, I may have to consider shooting

myself in the head.

Mark,

I thought I was going to do myself in when Bush was re-elected. The

thought of Frist in the White House is unimaginable to me.

Please, please I hope this never comes to be. I seriously think I

would lose it.

Wow! Those are some very inviting photos. My father and stepmother lived there

for 4

years and offered for me to come visit- I should have taken them up on it!

For what it's worth, I would be very surprised if Frist got the

nomination; I think Republicans will want to move away from a

candidate who is too much like Bush in terms of being beholden to big

business and the religious right. This straw poll is just something

for the news channels to talk about for a few days. My money is on

McCain or .

That said, I certainly echo the contempt that many here have for

Frist, and I agree that his involvement in the Combatting Autism Act

may be a bad thing.

His opponent might just be Hillary? And yes, his involvement in the Combating Autism Act is disturbing.

Usually, when political observers think of "Bill and Hill," they conjure up images of former President Clinton and wife Hillary, the Democratic senator from New York. But on Thursday, Hillary is teaming with another Bill, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, the Republican from Tennessee, in pushing health-care information-sharing technology legislation. They assert their drive is a sign of growing bipartisan cooperation in the Senate. Still, some pundits speculate the two could square off for the presidency in 2008.

Clinton told co-anchor Hannah Storm the measure would "create an electronic medical record that is secure and confidential for every American. It will provide immediate access to important health-care information to physicians treating you, to nurses who are looking after you, to hospitals and nursing homes who are taking care of you.

So what are the implications of the July 2005 appointed of Bush's former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and past Governor of Wisconsin, Tommy , to the Board of Directors of the VeriChip Corporation?

The HHS Data Management System

Tommy has joined the board of Applied Digital, which owns VeriChip, the company that specializes in subcutaneous RFID tags for humans and pets. To help promote the concepts behind the technology, himself will get an RFID tag implanted under his skin.

Prisons and jails are also experimenting with RFID bracelets and continual tracking to reduce inmate violence. "We are all well aware of the need to enhance Information Technology in healthcare," said in a prepared statement. "It is my belief that VeriChip is an important and secure means of accessing medical records and other information. I look forward to working with the company as it continues its growth."

FDA approves computer chip for humans

Devices could help doctors with stored medical information

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6237364/ Oct. 13, 2004

The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that Applied Digital Solutions of Delray Beach, Fla., could market the VeriChip, an implantable computer chip about the size of a grain of rice, for medical purposes.

With the pinch of a syringe, the microchip is inserted under the skin in a procedure that takes less than 20 minutes and leaves no stitches. Silently and invisibly, the dormant chip stores a code that releases patient-specific information when a scanner passes over it.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday announced $139 million in grants to help make real President Bush’s push for electronic health records for most Americans within a decade.

Well if you are expecting anything from

you can forget it. He rubber stamps anything industry and Frist wants. Last

year one of his staffers made a

comment that the reason more children are being diagnosed with autism is

because in the past they were

diagnosed as being 'criminally insane'.

The insensitive remark motivated a group of parents to meet with the senator

himself and were not impressed. He is a Bozo and appears as dumb as a box

of rocks....but that is just my opinion.

Unless things change dramatically, I don't expect to be voting for

any Republican candidate--I was just speculating on who might get the

nod instead of Frist. I hadn't heard that about 's staffer--

ignorant stuff.

The dems haven't been particularly courageous on our issues either, but at

least they were not in favor of extending liability protection to big

pharma.

Having said that there are stinkers on both sides of the aisle and we need

to continue to build support for our children by becoming active in the

political process.

I don't care what party champions our children and the

search for truth and justice. I also don't care about what they say...I care

about what they do. Actions speak louder than words. The actions of too many

are reprehensible.

Well said. At this point, none of the potential candidates look promising. It

will likely be of

matter of " pick your poison " . I guess the question is: which one is likely to do

the least

amount of harm to our children, and put up the most resistance to the corruption

and

influence already in place. Whomever is elected is already walking into a

disaster, and

regardless of how good their intentions are, it will likely take two terms to

turn things

around. I just hope that the truth about our children is exposed before then.

I can't wait that long. I may lose it if the Senate doesn't change

hands in 2006.

In a two-party system, with no hope whatsoever for a third party to

gain any representation at the federal level, there are, IMHO, no

ifs, buts, and ands about which party to vote for: you go with the

one that, at least in rhetoric, dares to mention the little guy's

interest. In the US of A that is the Democratic Party.

And folks we are the little guys! If you were in the mainstream of

the American society before autism happened to you, well, you no

longer are there. Autism has blown us all to the peripheries of this

society (which I think is a better place to be, minus the autism).

We are as marginal as all minorities are and the Republican Party

has nothing to offer for us. Nothing good can come out of a

philosophy that actually finds economic merit in the rich getting

mega-rich. An autism parent voting for Republicans is as oxymoronic

to me as a Republican, gay, atheist, African-American woman who is

also disabled. I am sorry if this sounds too inflammatory.

I had it with this administration, with or without the

autism/vaccine issue!!!

I recently emailed both the local Republican and Democrat parties

asking for an opportunity to speak about autism and the political

issues at play. The local Democrat Chairman just emailed me back,

saying he didn't see any issue with autism that would be political,

suggested I read books by an author named Temple Grandin, and the

local democrat party is more of a social than political gathering.

ROFL! Like I don't know who Temple Grandin is? I emailed him back with

some reasons why it is political and asked him if he would consider

issues with Alzheimers or HIV/AIDS to be non-political. I guess it

makes it clear what we're up against...

I received a letter from a NY Senator from upstate NY never heard of

him before, anyhow, it was in response to the bill to get insurance

companies to cover therapies and such for autism. He honest to God

said, and I took it as a screw you message, and I am paraphrasing

this, " the small amount of autistic kids, versus the thousands that

will loose their insurance if they do cover therapies for autism is

not worth it, his allegience is to the thousands that will loose

coverage for the 1% increase in premium costs. Unfortuantely I can't

even vote him out of office, not from my area.

Was it State Senator L. Seward? He is chairman of the Senate Insuance Committee. I got one of those letters as well. It made me sick. I was thinking of writing back and asking why it is ok for insurance companies to cover viagra and not autism.
