Lenny, I just got the Schafer report... and I gotta say, my friend, you ruined

my morning.

:-(

However, I understand your reasons for stepping down...after all, one can only

be

superhuman for so long before it's time for others to take the torch and run

with it.

So will you be publishing through to the end of this year?

Lenny,

Yes many of us will now have to search for what you've been

supplying us but you've been such as asset to all of us, our

families, and the ASD community in general. I wish there was a way

to obtain the Noble Peace Prize for you, you are very deserving of

it.

Would there be a way to keep this going, to have folks submit things

and then have perhaps folks take turns moderating it? I would hate

to see the Schafer report end after ten years, but understand

perfectly why you need to do so.

I personally hope you know how much you have assisted others and

families seeking answers.

With much respect and appreciation,

Carolyn

You've ruined my year! I understand if you have to leave, but it has

been the single-best internet tool I've had. I hope someone (,

no pressure here).

I for one would be very much part of a financial campaign to keep it

going.

I think Lenny's greatest legacy is that he's helped prepare us to flourish on

our own.

We will go on without Lenny, because we all fight for the same reason: our

children!

His steady influence...his service has been a blessing to all of us.

I am not pleased. This announcement did

not make my day.

How about charging each of the

non-profits in the autism community (based on their annual budget) for this

service?

You could pick which ones.

A sliding scale of $50, $100, $250, $500,

$1,000, $2,000 and $5,000 a year for your services.

Guidestar www.guidestar.org (a non profit tracking

tool of non-profits) says there are close to 1,000 charities who have “AUTISM”

in their mission.

Perhaps a letter and an appeal to them

for their support would do.

I just cannot accept you are quitting. I

don’t accept your resignation for very selfish reasons. Sorry, I know

this is selfish. I know you need to think of your family – but what about

one last ditch effort? I know… I a mean.

Big hugs,

A Jeff's mom

Lenny,

I was wondering the same thing and feeling like crap for not having

sent in contributions. I got my checkbook out now!! What you do is

SO valuable and I really don't think that a piecemeal solution will

work nearly as well as what you do. And, altough it seems like

maybe we are turning a corner in this war - maybe - you are one of

our leaders. There have already been too many losses for this

year. I agree with - can we have another chance to get this on

the right track? You shouldn't have been doing so much work (an

absolute ton of work) for all these years for almost nothing. And,

its not just the loss of the newsletter, per se -- It's the loss of

your constant vigilance, wisdom and knowledge that reflects a long

historical view. Very few people have that and its not

replaceable. I know I'm whining (and begging) and I do accept your

decision but I'm really sad that things are as they are. This

community needs to find a way to support its leaders -

Many of the non-profits in the autism world are struggling to stay afloat. It's difficult to get donations, and the costs of providing services are astronomical. Budget does NOT equal profit!

My school is non-profit, we have a huge budget, and after 5 years, I'm STILL not earning a real salary! (I live off Social Security death benefits and the small amount of money I got from life insurance when my husband died.)

P.S. Word to the wise -- make sure you and your spouse have good life insurance plans! We never thought it would happen to us!

When I read the SAR today and saw Lenny's comments, it was a very

humbling experience. I probably don't work half as hard, I still

manage to hold down a full time job, I don't do anything like this

kind of service to any community, I have a better half who still for

some strange reason wants to be with me, and yet at the end of the day

I somehow have the gaul to actually feel tired.

Lenny - your comments about your efforts almost make me feel ashamed.

And your words about your son struck a nerve so deep that I know I

could not fault you in any way for your decision.

How cool would it be to see this community come together not just to

keep the SAR going, but to give you back a bit of what you've given up

so unselfishly over the last 10 years?

Where do I send the cheque? Lenny - even if you have to move on, I'd

consider it a great priviledge for me to be able to sorta' " buy you a

beer after work... " It's the least about 20,000 of us can do...

many thanks

Thanks Debi for the support but I, like Lenny, have an affected

older child (13) and my main goal is to her...but, I do enjoy

hunting down information, good and bad, to keep our flames blazing.

I hate to see Lenny " retire " but understand completely.

If funding is an issue, a nominal subscription may fix the problem

but healing your child and tending to a life with autism is more

involved.

Lenny, I think you may get a lot of mail on this one. You are going

to be like the ny Carson of autism...irreplaceable.

I too wish Lenny only the best.

And although he is irreplaceable, please don't forget that I offer a website filled with vaccination/autism news.

I'd be more than happy to pay. My computer crashed a week ago. And I

just read this. I'm still in shock. I'd be happy to pay for me and a

handful of people who don't have the funds to pay. I think this is an

excellent idea.

I would also pay for the report. Perhaps you could set up a paypal account to make it easy for everyone to pay.
